Hong Kong online media “Boom News – Explosive Head” founder Tang Haorong was arrested by the National Security Department of the police at around 7 a.m. today (30th). It is reported that the incident involves “dissemination of false information to incite outside Prince Edward Station on 831.” Along with the earlier arrests, the National Security Department has arrested at least 5 people.
According to reports from “Sing Tao Headlines” and “Hong Kong 01,” Tang Haorong was arrested in the Jordan area on the morning of September 30th. Another person was also arrested.
The information indicates that the National Security Department’s operation involves someone holding a bouquet outside the Prince Edward MTR Station on the night of August 31 this year to mourn the “Prince Edward Station 8.31 incident” in 2019.
Earlier on September 3, the National Security Department arrested two local men and one local woman in the Hong Kong Island and Kowloon areas on charges of “taking actions with the intent to incite.” The arrested individuals, aged between 33 and 79, include “Mong Kok Rambo” member Chen Guanxu and former district councilor Fung King Man.
On the night of August 31, 2019, during the Hong Kong anti-extradition movement, Hong Kong police indiscriminately attacked citizens at the Prince Edward MTR Station in Mong Kok, causing multiple injuries. Rumors circulated that someone had died from the beatings, which the police denied. Since then, on the last day of each month, citizens have been gathering outside Prince Edward Station to commemorate the incident. The event also deepened the mistrust of the police among Hong Kong people.
According to information, Tang Haorong graduated from the Computer Science Department of the Chinese University of Hong Kong and previously worked as a reporter for the “Chinese University Student Press” and “Golden Forum News Channel.” He also covered the PolyU siege during the anti-extradition movement.
Starting in 2020, Tang Haorong began operating his own online media through platforms such as YouTube, Facebook, and Patreon, using “Explosive Head” as his online alias and brand, running “Boom News – Explosive Head.” He mainly conducts street interviews and live broadcasts in the form of an independent journalist.
