Costco’s new benefit: Shopping via Uber Eats available in 47 U.S. states

According to a news release issued on Wednesday (September 16th), Uber and Costco are expanding their partnership in the United States for Uber Eats, expanding business nationwide. Members located in all 47 states with Costco stores can now order Costco products through Uber Eats, with nearly 600 Costco stores already available on the platform.

Uber’s President and Chief Operating Officer, Andrew Macdonald, stated in the news release, “We are excited to expand our partnership with Costco nationwide, providing more shopping options for Costco members and allowing the brand’s renowned product range and high value to reach more consumers.”

The news release promises that Uber Eats will offer consumers “beloved Costco best-selling products,” covering a variety of products including “fresh produce, bulk grocery items, household necessities, and Costco exclusive items.”

To order Costco products through Uber Eats, users simply need to select a Costco store, add their Costco membership account information at checkout, and choose between immediate or scheduled delivery services.

This upgraded partnership also brings benefits for Costco members: eligible members have the opportunity to enjoy a 50% discount on the first year of Uber One membership fee and subsequently an 20% discount in following years.

According to the news release, Uber One members can order eligible items (totaling over $60) from designated grocery and retail stores without paying Uber service fees.

Additionally, Costco will offer a limited-time $100 Uber and Uber Eats gift card for $79.99 at participating stores and on their official website.

Customers who are not Costco members can also register for membership through the Uber Eats app (limited-time offer). After registration, their first eligible Costco order will receive a 30% discount.

As reported by PEOPLE magazine, customers placing their first order for Costco products (over $60) on Uber Eats will enjoy a 20% discount, with a maximum reduction of $25 per order, applicable for the first three orders.

The news release emphasizes, “This business expansion provides Costco members with a convenient new way to shop at their local Costco.”

As part of the partnership agreement, some Costco members may receive discounts on Uber One (the platform’s premium membership service); customers can also directly purchase Costco memberships through the Uber Eats app.

A spokesperson from Uber confirmed to financial news website CNBC that all products sold by Costco are available for delivery through Uber Eats.

This move comes as Uber Eats faces increasing competition in the food and grocery delivery sector.

In addition to longstanding competitors like Instacart, DoorDash, and Amazon Fresh, Walmart is also actively expanding its delivery services. The retail giant recently launched Walmart Restaurant Delivery, partnering with Subway and Dunkin’, breaking the traditional model of only delivering in-store products.
