Queens, New York’s Overseas Community Celebrates the 115th National Day of the Republic of China on Double Tenth Day
The celebration for the 115th National Day of the Republic of China will be held on October 3 in Queens, New York. The preparatory committee held its second meeting on the evening of September 3, announcing that fundraising has exceeded $20,000, and the booths for the “Taiwanese Food Expo” are almost fully booked. This year, a creatively arranged “Community Entry Ceremony” has been planned, with multiple groups already signed up, and preparations are in full swing.
Representatives from over 60 overseas community organizations attended the second preparatory meeting. With the theme of “Joy and Celebration, Unity in Diversity,” this year’s event aims to express the emotional connection of overseas compatriots to the Republic of China and Taiwan, showcasing Taiwan’s spirit of freedom and democracy, and passing on this sense of identity to the younger generation.
Unlike previous years, this year’s celebration will focus on the theme “From the Old, Middle-aged, and Young, Passing on Traditions and Welcoming the New.” A special “Community Creative Entry” ceremony has been arranged to kick off the festivities, highlighting the unity of the overseas community and the diverse purposes and cultural characteristics of different associations.
The organizing committee for the National Day celebration includes Director Wang Jinzhi, Secretary-General Zhou Shuhui, Deputy Director Zhang Lixian from the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in New York, and Director Wang Yiru from the New York Chinese Cultural and Educational Services Center. They welcomed the participation of three generations of compatriots in the “Community Creative Entry” segment and encouraged more young people to get involved in the preparations, hoping that the community can pass on the baton from one generation to the next.
The specific schedule for the celebration includes the “Community Creative Entry” at 9 a.m., the flag-raising ceremony at 9:30 a.m., a National Day celebration at 10:30 a.m. in the school auditorium, and a Taiwanese Food Expo at noon in the school gymnasium.
Director Wang Jinzhi also introduced that the Queens community will participate in the Double Tenth National Day Parade organized by the Manhattan Chinatown Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association on October 10, making the celebration even larger and more lively.
The Queens celebration will be held on October 3 (Saturday) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at P.S. 20Q, the Flushing School in Queens (142-30 Barclay Ave., including the outdoor activity area at Bowne Playground).
