Haverford College in Pennsylvania, United States, made headlines as Chinese-American professor Guangtian Ha was arrested on Tuesday (October 6th) on charges of cyberstalking, also known as online harassment and intimidation. Professor Ha has been accused of engaging in a pattern of online tracking and is currently prohibited from entering the campus.
According to a statement released by the school’s president, Wendy Raymond, Professor Ha was on academic leave for the current school year and was not actively teaching. He has now been placed on administrative leave and is barred from the campus during the criminal proceedings.
President Raymond mentioned that a representative from the college has reached out to the victims of these malicious online attacks, which are reported to have anti-Semitic undertones.
The indictment detailed that from around October 9, 2025, to May 20, 2026, Ha engaged in harassment and intimidation directed at “Victim 1” through continued online and email attacks, causing Victim 1 to fear for their life or serious physical harm. These actions were intended to inflict substantial emotional distress on Victim 1 and their family.
Ha allegedly used an anonymous X account to send threatening messages to Victim 1 and frequently utilized a VPN to conceal his IP address, making tracing the messages back to him more challenging. From October 2025 to May 2026, Ha used at least four different X accounts to send approximately 50 messages to Victim 1.
The messages outlined in the indictment displayed clear anti-Semitic content along with threats, intimidation, demands for Victim 1 to leave the United States, and references to Victim 1’s address and family members. Ha also posted threatening messages regarding Victim 1’s minor son and insulted Victim 1’s wife online.
Ha referred to Jewish people as “blood-sucking demons” and “cockroaches,” expressed support for Hitler, advocated for another genocide, claimed that Israel would cease to exist, and proclaimed the imminent downfall of American Jews. Additionally, he repeatedly shared Victim 1’s residential address online and warned them to “be careful.”
The Chinese-American professor used usernames such as “America1st33509,” “America1stLM,” and “Im_GoyimDL” on the X platform, seemingly attempting to align these accounts with right-wing ideologies.
President Raymond emphasized in her statement, “I want to make it clear that any harassment or discriminatory behavior based on identity is unacceptable and goes against our values, having no place at Haverford College.”
“I also extend my gratitude to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Haverford Township Police Department, and the campus security department for their assistance in the investigation,” Raymond added.
