A documentary titled “State-Owned Organs” exposing the atrocities of forced organ harvesting by the Chinese Communist Party has won multiple international awards. Guan Jianzhong, the head of Magnum Films responsible for importing the documentary “State-Owned Organs,” has been subjected to cross-border repression by the CCP, receiving 150 threats and intimidations. Liang Wenjie, Deputy Minister of the Mainland Affairs Council of the Republic of China, emphasized today (October 5) the defense of democracy and freedom. The Mainland Affairs Council firmly supports Guan Jianzhong and resolutely counters cross-border repression.
The Mainland Affairs Council of the Republic of China posted on Facebook today, stating that they, in conjunction with the Straits Exchange Foundation, specially invited Guan Jianzhong, head of Magnum Films, to discuss the malicious harassment and threats he has faced for importing and promoting the documentary “State-Owned Organs.” The government expressed its concerns and delved into his latest situation and needs.
Liang Wenjie expressed admiration for Guan Jianzhong’s courage in the face of repression and the government’s determination to uphold freedom of speech and human rights protection. Regardless of the coercion attempts, the government stands with the individuals involved, providing assistance to victims of cross-border repression to safeguard their personal safety and legitimate rights.
Guan Jianzhong pointed out that the CCP’s intimidation and harassment are essentially psychological warfare aiming to instill societal fear and create a chilling effect. He emphasized the importance for the public to maintain psychological defenses, refuse to succumb to coercion, and highlighted that many people, upon watching the film, have been deeply moved and are willing to bravely step forward to urge more individuals to watch the movie and understand the truth.
The Mainland Affairs Council emphasized that the CCP’s cross-border repression aims not to intimidate individuals but to collectively and indiscriminately suppress fear. The government will not allow victims to face such pressures alone and will continue to stand with the people, firmly countering any coercive means that violate the rights and security of individuals.
Previously, on the 1st of October, the Mainland Affairs Council held a routine press conference where Liang Wenjie mentioned that the latest victim of cross-border repression tactics is Guan Jianzhong, the head of Magnum Films who imported the documentary “State-Owned Organs.” Apart from continuous intimidation tactics like bomb threats and threatening letters, unidentified individuals have been impersonating him to intimidate others. These victims of intimidation have reported the incidents, forcing Guan Jianzhong to make numerous appearances across Taiwan, clearly exhausting him.
Liang Wenjie stated that in November of last year, someone used Guan Jianzhong’s phone to threaten a lawyer for money, resulting in Guan Jianzhong being summoned by the police for obstruction of freedom. In December last year, individuals threatened the Black Bear Academy, leading Guan Jianzhong to once again face questioning at the Taipei District Prosecutors Office. On September 29 this year, someone impersonating Guan Jianzhong threatened the Falun Gong Academy, prompting him to undergo interrogation at the police station again.
Liang Wenjie mentioned that, with the coordination of the Mainland Affairs Council, Guan Jianzhong filed a report at the police station on the 1st, and the Mainland Affairs Council will work with the National Police Agency and the Ministry of Justice to ensure the uniform handling of the cases to reduce Guan Jianzhong’s troubles. The Mainland Affairs Council urged individuals to remain vigilant if they receive calls claiming to be Guan Jianzhong for harassment or threats as these could be impersonations.
