The Taiwan Ocean Affairs Council’s Coast Guard Administration stated that the Chinese Coast Guard claimed to have been conducting routine law enforcement patrols in the waters near Kinmen since September, packaging it as a propaganda campaign for the Mid-Autumn Festival. The Coast Guard Administration pointed out that Taiwan, the Republic of China, is a sovereign and independent country, not subordinate to the People’s Republic of China. The Chinese side’s actions defy objective facts and are purely a form of psychological warfare.
According to a press release from the Taiwan Ocean Affairs Council’s Coast Guard Administration, “Since September, the Fujian Coast Guard has organized ship formations to conduct routine law enforcement patrols in the waters near Kinmen.” In a video released, the Chinese Coast Guard is seen calling out to the Kinmen Coast Guard ship, wishing them “a happy Mid-Autumn Festival and reunion with their families soon.”
The Taiwan Coast Guard Administration noted that in 2025, Chinese Coast Guard ships crossed the restricted waters near Kinmen under the guise of “law enforcement patrols” a total of 46 times, and as of the current year in 2026, it has already occurred 35 times. Through analysis of actual navigation patterns, it can be seen as “routine harassment” rather than “law enforcement patrols,” seriously affecting the atmosphere between both sides and blatantly disrupting regional peace and stability.
The Coast Guard Administration emphasized that the Chinese side deliberately uses festive atmosphere and emotional rhetoric for psychological warfare, attempting to disguise the fact that their actions unilaterally disrupt the current situation.
The Coast Guard Administration called on the Chinese Coast Guard to immediately cease any harassing behavior that could lead to conflicts or escalate tensions. They stated that they will continue to deploy ships around the clock, closely monitoring and resolutely defending national sovereignty and maritime security to ensure the operational rights and interests of fishermen.
