In September 2026, in Baohe County, Ankang City, Shaanxi Province, a female elementary school teacher was hit by two cars in April 2024. One of the cars dragged her for about 5.9 kilometers, leading to her tragic death. After the accident, those involved discussed finding someone else to take the blame and provided false information to the police.
According to a report by Xinhua News, on September 28 this year, the charges in the case of the victim, Ms. Xue, have been updated. Previously, out of the 5 individuals involved, 2 were charged with traffic offenses, 1 was charged with sheltering a criminal, and the other 2 were not held criminally responsible. Now, all 5 are facing charges of intentional homicide.
According to the indictment, on the evening of April 29, 2024, 49-year-old teacher Xue was walking home when she was hit and then dragged by two cars before succumbing to her injuries.
Ms. Xue’s sister confirmed that the accident occurred on the route her sister usually took to walk home.
The first car was driven by Liu, a teacher from Baohe County Vocational Education Center. After hitting Xue, Liu stopped the car, checked but did not find her on the ground, and then called the police.
Meanwhile, the second car arrived at the scene of the accident.
The indictment revealed that Xue and other colleagues had consumed alcohol before the accident, and afterwards, when Xue was dragged under the car, the occupants noticed bumps and sounds. Even though Xue was being dragged under the car, some occupants chose to ignore the situation and left the scene.
During the investigation, it was discovered that the injuries sustained in the second accident were the primary cause of Xue’s death, as the initial impact was not enough to immediately result in death.
Following the accident, the individuals in the car attempted to cover up the incident by switching seats and trying to find a scapegoat. This led to a chain of events where false information was provided to the authorities and attempts were made to evade responsibility.
The case took a turn in August 2026 when the charges against the individuals were changed to intentional homicide. The defendants, including former officials and employees, were all charged with intentional killing.
The prosecutor argued that the defendants, despite knowing the dangers of impaired driving, chose to ride in a vehicle driven by an intoxicated driver. After the accident, instead of seeking help, they opted to flee the scene, ultimately resulting in the death of Ms. Xue.
The case has sparked public outrage and discussions online, with many expressing sympathy for the victim and condemning the actions of the defendants. Comments such as “the victim suffered a tragic death,” “support the victim’s family,” and “the defendants have no conscience, they are guilty of intentional homicide” have been prevalent in the public discourse.
