Recently, five armed robbers broke into a high-end apartment owned by a Chinese tycoon in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The robbers tied up the homeowner’s family members, personal bodyguards, driver, chef, and others before making away with cash and jewelry worth a total of 3.18 million Malaysian Ringgit (approximately 790,000 US dollars).
According to a report by Sin Chew Daily, the Chief of Wang Shamazhu Police District in Kuala Lumpur, Anas Sulaiman, issued a statement on the evening of September 8th (Tuesday) stating that the police received a report from a 28-year-old Chinese citizen on the afternoon of the 7th, reporting a robbery at his apartment unit at Pavilion Embassy on Jalan Ampang in Kuala Lumpur.
The police stated that the incident occurred between 2 pm and 3 pm on Monday, with preliminary investigations revealing that several masked, gloved men armed with knives broke into the residence and stole cash, jewelry, and luxury watches, estimating a loss of 2.91 million Ringgit. The suspects also damaged the victims’ phones and took away their passports. The police are currently investigating the case.
Reports cited sources as saying that at the time of the incident, there were several Chinese individuals inside the house, including the homeowner’s family, personal bodyguards, driver, and chef. Five unidentified men with masks and weapons entered the premises.
The occupants of the house were afraid of getting hurt and didn’t dare to resist. The robbers quickly subdued everyone, binding their hands and feet with plastic ties and taping some people’s mouths shut. The robbers then ransacked multiple rooms, taking a large amount of cash and luxury items.
After the robbers left, the Chinese tycoon’s personal bodyguard and driver, Du Kai (translation, 28 years old), reported the incident to the police. He revealed that during the incident, he was in the restroom when he heard the sound of a dog barking inside the house. When he stepped out to check, a masked robber held a knife to his neck. The robber ordered him to kneel down and then bound his hands.
The robber took the driver to another room where he found the other occupants of the house already subdued and tied up. He mentioned that the robbers then took him back to the restroom and turned off the lights. After about 10 minutes in the restroom, he heard the sound of the door closing outside, which led him to believe the robbers had left. He managed to escape by opening the door and cutting the ties of the others.
Du Kai disclosed that he had arrived in Kuala Lumpur from China on the 4th of this month and had been staying at his employer’s aforementioned apartment.
It was reported that the victim suffered losses amounting to approximately 3.18 million Ringgit, including 210,000 Ringgit in cash, jade stones worth around 50,000 Ringgit, a Patek Philippe watch worth about 650,000 Ringgit, a Richard Mille watch worth about 1.8 million Ringgit, two platinum necklaces worth around 200,000 Ringgit each, and a bracelet worth about 270,000 Ringgit.
