Former sales director of Alibaba Group, Li Chen, who emigrated to the United States two years ago, was recently found dead in his own car. Li Chen, 42, resided in the city of Arcadia, USA, and went missing on August 21 with no contact ever since. The Arcadia Police Department announced Li Chen’s death on September 4, and the Homicide Division of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department has taken over the case. Specific details of the case are still under investigation.
Li Chen was last seen on August 21, and a missing person notice was issued by the Arcadia Police Department thereafter. Kollin Cieadlo, an administrative executive of the Arcadia Police Department, revealed that Li Chen was found dead in his car; discovered by an officer from the La Crescenta substation of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, the primary agency investigating Li Chen’s death.
Three aspects currently under investigation are: the cause of death and manner of death to be announced by the Los Angeles County Coroner; whether the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department has determined any criminal involvement; and if the police will release information on the location of death, timeline, and circumstances surrounding the discovery of the vehicle.
Li Chen, originally from Fujian, immigrated to the United States with his wife and two children two years ago.
The first to notice Li Chen’s disappearance were two online gaming friends he had known for six months, who realized he hadn’t been online for four days. Concerned by this unusual behavior, they sent him several WeChat messages, but received no response, leading to suspicions of a possible accident.
Friends mentioned that Li Chen was usually quick to respond to messages.
According to the two friends, Li Chen, coming from Fujian, had served as a sales director at Alibaba Group, owning Alibaba original shares and having connections with many industry leaders.
As of September 5, the police or the coroner had not disclosed information regarding Li Chen’s cause of death.
Alibaba Group is a large global technology conglomerate that originated in mainland China.
