Best-selling yogurt recalled in the US may contain sharp plastic pieces

A well-known yogurt brand is recalling more than ten popular products from the U.S. market due to the possibility of containing plastic fragments with sharp edges, which could pose a choking hazard to consumers.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced on Monday (July 14th) that Danone U.S., the U.S. subsidiary of the French Danone Group, is voluntarily recalling YoCrunch branded yogurt products sold in retail stores nationwide. The reason for the recall is the potential presence of plastic pieces in the topping compartment of the packaging, which, if ingested accidentally, could lead to choking incidents.

The FDA notification emphasized that the issue is confined to the individual topping compartment on the package’s lid and does not affect the yogurt contained in the lower compartment. This recall applies to all flavors and varieties of YoCrunch products currently on the market.

Reports from consumers alerted authorities to the presence of plastic pieces in the topping compartment of YoCrunch yogurt packaging, posing a choking risk. The plastic fragments are transparent, possibly with sharp edges, with lengths ranging from 7 to 25 millimeters, posing a safety hazard to consumers.

The voluntary recall was initiated on July 11, 2025, and Danone U.S. is collaborating with the FDA on this action. The company is actively working with retail partners to remove the affected products from shelves swiftly, while also addressing the issue to ensure the safe return of YoCrunch products that are beloved by many consumers.

In their statement, the company expressed, “Danone U.S., the manufacturer of YoCrunch products, places high importance on every consumer’s experience and has initiated this voluntary recall action based on our commitment to product quality and consumer safety.”

Consumers who have purchased the impacted YoCrunch products are advised not to consume them. For refund information, consumers can contact the brand’s customer service hotline at 1-877-344-4886.
