Attend Saudi National Day; Taiwan Deputy Foreign Minister: Deepen Cooperation in Various Fields

The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China, Wu Chih-chung, attended the “94th National Day Celebration of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia” hosted by the Saudi Arabian Trade Office in Taipei on the evening of September 23rd. Wu pointed out that Taiwan will continue to deepen cooperation with Saudi Arabia in various fields in the future.

In his speech, Wu stated, “Saudi Arabia is our country’s 15th largest trading partner and the primary trading partner in the Middle East, with the bilateral trade volume reaching $10.14 billion in 2023. Saudi Arabia is a reliable source of energy supply for Taiwan, accounting for nearly one-third of our crude oil imports. Its long-term stable energy supply is an important support for the industrial development and economic growth of our country.”

Wu emphasized, “In the future, our country will continue to work hand in hand with Saudi Arabia to deepen cooperation in trade, investment, technology, tourism, education, agriculture, and other sectors, in order to create prosperity and well-being for the people of both countries.”

Representative Adel Fahad A. Althaidi of the Saudi Arabian Trade Office expressed in his speech that under the visionary leadership of the national leaders, Saudi Arabia continues to strive towards its ideals. The country is entering an era of sustainability, growth, and development, and has become one of the world’s top twenty economies.

Adel mentioned that Taiwan and Saudi Arabia are jointly committed to strengthening cooperation in economic and cultural aspects, and have signed several agreements to enhance bilateral economic and trade relations. The Saudi Arabian Trade Office will continue to deepen bilateral cooperation and promote further exchanges in culture, economy, trade, investment, and tourism.

Following their speeches, Wu Chih-chung and Representative Adel jointly cut the cake, symbolizing the prosperity of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and wishing for the enduring friendship between Taiwan and Saudi Arabia.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China stated that the friendship between Taiwan and Saudi Arabia has a long history and both countries have close cooperation in various fields. Developing the Islamic market is one of the important policies of the Taiwanese government, and this year the Chinese Islamic Association pilgrimage delegation successfully completed their pilgrimage under the cooperation between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Saudi Arabian Trade Office, with all members returning safely. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will continue to uphold the spirit of mutual benefit and reciprocity, expand and deepen cooperation between the two countries, and enhance bilateral people-to-people exchanges and mutual well-being.
