On the evening of October 12th, at a crossroads in Yichun, Jiangxi, a man driving a red small electric vehicle repeatedly rammed into a police car. The police said the accident was caused by improper operation, and the man has been arrested on suspicion of endangering public safety, but the details are unclear.
A video circulating online showed in Binjiang Town, Yichun, near Binxing Road, a red mini electric vehicle commonly known as a “Lao Toutle” repeatedly hitting a parked police car on the road.
After the electric car driver rammed into the police car, he reversed a few meters, then adjusted the angle and hit the police car again. A police officer got out of the car trying to persuade the electric car driver to stop, but the driver did not halt and continued to ram the car. The repeated violent crashes caused the front bumper of the electric car to fall off, and the front of the car was noticeably damaged. Eventually, the electric car stopped after hitting a private car behind it while reversing.
At the scene, there were many onlookers. After the electric car stopped, several citizens approached to check on the situation and persuade the male driver.
The Yichun Yuanzhou Public Security Sub-Bureau issued a notification on the 13th, stating that the electric car driver was a 54-year-old man named Liu from Binjiang Town. He was immediately controlled at the scene, and there were no casualties.
The notification also mentioned that on the day of the incident, Liu was driving his newly purchased four-wheeled electric car at the intersection when he collided with a small car waiting at the traffic lights due to unfamiliarity with the performance of the new vehicle. In the process of fleeing the scene, he consecutively knocked down the parked electric cars on the side of the road and collided with the duty police car. After testing, Liu excluded suspicions of drunk or drugged driving. Currently, he has been arrested on suspicion of endangering public safety, and the case is under further investigation.
However, many netizens expressed that from the video footage at the scene, the male driver of the electric car deliberately adjusted the angle each time to hit the police car, and it did not appear to be due to improper operation.
