The new eight-point drama Taiwanese drama “Wish” began shooting today (June 11th), with actors like Huang Shaoqi, Chen Guanlin, Jiang Hongen, Huo Zhengqi, Jiang Guobin, Jiang Zuping and others attending. This time, the cast also includes new faces such as Luo Qiaolun, Qiu Zixin, Guo Yatang, and Zou Chengen making their first appearance in a Taiwanese drama.
The story follows three good friends, Huang Shaoqi, Chen Guanlin, and Jiang Hongen, who turn against each other for money, each with their own families in the series.
Chen Guanlin, who usually takes Taiwanese soap operas as idol dramas, takes on a new role as a father in this drama with adult children in their 20s. Many are curious to see how he will adjust his mindset to this new role.
Chen Guanlin revealed that his own child is also starting high school, so he’s coping well mentally. “It’s just that Chu Xiang, who plays his son, calling him dad in a deep voice is the only thing that feels unfamiliar at the moment.”
Huang Shaoqi also has adult children in their 20s in this drama, Li Jiaqing and Hua Qianhan. He jokingly said that once you play a parent role, there’s no turning back. He and the seldom-seen Jiang Zuping play a married couple.
Known for her strong personality, Jiang Zuping is fondly referred to as “Brother Ping” by her peers. So teaming up in this drama, Huang Shaoqi jokingly said it feels like they’re brothers, “I’ve never encountered such a strong and muscular woman before.”
This time, Jiang Zuping added a lot of elegance to her role as a rich lady with all her shoes being high heels, hoping to bring out more femininity. She mentioned that since filming began, all her characters have been tough, stating on Instagram that she’s been filming arguments and fights lately, feeling like she’s in an action film, with her biggest takeaway so far being bruises and body aches, jokingly referring to herself as an “old bone.”
Before filming started, Huang Shaoqi spent some time in the United States with his child. To get in shape for the role, he had to return to Taiwan early for training. He revealed that he had been combining aerobic activities with weight training, but now he has to start avoiding certain foods, “because American food is too terrifying and sinful.”
Jiang Hongen plays a major villain in this drama, pushing his sworn brother Chen Guanlin off a cliff for money. He mentioned that his character this time is more ruthless and money-oriented. However, filming has been tough this time, with just the opening scenes involving the three sworn brothers taking four days to shoot consecutively.
In this drama, Chen Guanlin’s character undergoes the most significant transformation. Due to the poor family background in the series, he didn’t need many formal clothes, but he still bought a lot himself because “even the poor have their own way of dressing.”
