Park Bo-gum Writes Lyrics for Sweet Duet with Suzy in “Dream”

On May 29, 2024, the South Korean movie “Wonderland” released the behind-the-scenes footage of Park Bo-gum and Suzy’s duet song “WISH: Wonderland is here.” Park Bo-gum, amidst a busy filming schedule, stayed up all night to participate in writing the lyrics for the song. With just one day of practice, he and Suzy delivered a sweet and heartfelt duet scene.

“Wonderland” tells the story of a future where humans develop a virtual world called “wonderland” through artificial intelligence, allowing people to reunite with their loved ones who have passed away.

The storyline of “Wonderland” revolves around Suzy’s character “Jung-in” and her boyfriend Tae-joo (played by Park Bo-gum) who becomes a vegetative state after an accident. She misses him deeply and through the “wonderland” commissioned service, hopes to chat with Tae-joo normally as they did before. When Tae-joo miraculously wakes up one day, he faces a reality that feels unfamiliar and chaotic. Unable to interact as they did in reality, Suzy and Park Bo-gum come together for a sweet duet scene.

In a previous movie press conference, Park Bo-gum shared his experience of being involved in the lyric-writing process, mentioning that the short timeline made a lasting impression on him.

He said, “The day before shooting this scene, Director Kim Tae-young and Music Director Bang Jun-sik suggested that we sing together and asked if I could try writing the lyrics. After finishing the day’s shoot, we gathered in the dormitory at 3 a.m. I composed the lyrics while playing the ukulele and the next day, after practicing, I sang the song together with Suzy.”

This collaborative song was arranged based on Bach’s “Air on the G String,” with lyrics co-written by Director Kim Tae-young, Music Director Bang Jun-sik, and Park Bo-gum. The lyrics, reflecting the emotions of Tae-joo, added depth to the song, which was titled “WISH: Wonderland is here.”

The movie “Wonderland” is set to premiere in South Korea on June 5.
