Wuxi activist Shen Aibin detained again for defending rights

In the latest news from Epoch Times on September 25, 2025, it was reported that Shen Aibin, a retired military personnel from Wuxi, Jiangsu Province, was released from prison in April this year after completing his sentence. He has been actively lodging complaints with relevant authorities in Wuxi about what he claims are unjust verdicts against him for the third time. On September 23, he was detained for 10 days by the Liangxi Public Security Sub-bureau in Wuxi on charges of “obstructing official duties”, marking his second detention in the five months since his release.

Shen Aibin has experienced three unjust convictions and has attempted to report his grievances to the central government’s inspection team three times, without much success. On September 22, he once again approached the Fifth Central Inspection Team to recount his experiences. After his visit to the inspection team stationed at the Nanjing Jingxi Hotel, Shen Aibin shared a video with Epoch Times reporters detailing his recent efforts to address his situation.

Speaking to the reporters, Shen Aibin said, “I have been given three unjust convictions by the corrupt judicial system in Wuxi for assisting rights defenders with legal aid, as well as enduring prolonged persecution through intense electromagnetic radiation. The authorities have utilized criminal means to maintain stability, leading to the isolation of my connections and financial resources, among other inhumane acts. This marks my fourth attempt to bring my experiences to the attention of the central inspection team.”

Most recently, Shen Aibin was sentenced to three years in prison and was released on April 30, 2025. Upon his release, he publicly accused Zhang Zhen, the Deputy Secretary of the Political and Legal Committee of the Wuxi Municipal Committee and the Deputy Mayor of Wuxi as well as the director of the Public Security Bureau, of abusing power and manipulating the judicial system to convict him.

While Shen Aibin had hoped for a positive response from the central inspection team this time, he was disappointed. His wife revealed on September 23, “Shen Aibin has reported three wrongful cases to the central inspection team four times, and on September 23, he was detained for 10 days by the Liangxi Public Security Sub-bureau on charges of ‘obstructing official duties’.”

This marks the second time Shen Aibin has been detained within half a year of his release. The first instance occurred on July 3 when he and rights defender Zhang Ling tried to meet with the Governor of Jiangsu Province, Xu Kunlin, and were taken to the Ninghai Road Police Station by the security personnel at the provincial government, resulting in Shen Aibin being administratively detained for 15 days.

Zhang Ling described Shen Aibin as a very civilized individual who believes in the rule of law as a retired military personnel and who stands up for justice. She emphasized that his first conviction was for being a good samaritan, the second for self-defense, and the third for exposing the truth. Zhang questioned the authorities’ callous actions and highlighted the injustice faced by those upholding the law.

An online user named “Midnight” commented, “In this era, the authorities’ words sound better than their actions, and the cycle of mutual protection among officials is unbreakable. Those truly guilty are shielded and enjoy impunity, while innocent rights defenders like Shen Aibin are repeatedly wronged and imprisoned. Where is the justice in this? Let’s all pay attention to Shen Aibin from Wuxi!”

Rights defender Mr. Liu reported to the CCP police and the Jiangsu authorities, urging them to investigate the incident where Shen Aibin was detained by the Liangxi Public Security Sub-bureau on charges of “obstructing official duties” for 10 days, and to ensure the safety of people’s lives and properties.
