Lu Han’s Dramatic Weight Loss Raises Suspicions of Heartbreak; Chen He Responds on Behalf of Friend

At the age of 35, Chinese mainland actor Lu Han confirmed his relationship with Guan Xiaotong in 2017, and there were several rumors about their impending marriage. However, recent reports suggest that the couple has split up, yet neither of them has officially addressed the situation. Lu Han, who recently held a concert tour, appeared considerably thin, with a sunken face and cheeks that looked drastically different from his previous appearance, leading to speculation that he may be suffering from emotional distress. His friend Chen He’s response on a live broadcast about the core reason behind Lu Han’s transformation has sparked public attention and discussions.

Lu Han, busy with his “2025 Lu Han Season 4 Asia Tour,” was recently spotted in Shanghai looking extremely thin, prompting concerns about his health. Video footage circulating online showed him wearing a baseball cap and sunglasses, with sunken cheeks and prominent cheekbones, giving off a gaunt appearance. He was dressed in a white t-shirt, looking slender, with shoulders that seemed unable to fill out his clothing, a stark contrast to his previous fuller cheeks and average physique.

In concert footage featuring Lu Han, a previous photo of him with Japanese singer Tomohisa Yamashita was deemed by netizens as “too thin,” prompting suspicions about whether the pressure he faced led to health issues.

Responding to fans’ concerns, Lu Han smiled during a live video and said: “I’ve been preparing for a new album recently, writing songs overnight, practicing dances, and having irregular meals, which is why I appear noticeably thinner. But my health is really good without any problems.”

His friend Chen He also mentioned during the live broadcast that Lu Han’s significant weight loss was a result of intense training for the concert tour. He stated that Lu Han exercises and runs every day, aiming to present the best image on stage in a “fit state” and emphasized, “He’s doing well, so don’t worry.”

Addressing concerns that Lu Han’s mental and physical health may have been affected by his alleged breakup with Guan Xiaotong, Chen He directly refuted the claims and urged the public to stop overinterpreting the situation.

Lu Han and the 7 years younger Guan Xiaotong crossed paths while working on the TV series “Sweet Combat.” On October 8, 2017, Lu Han surprised the public by announcing his relationship with Guan Xiaotong on Weibo, causing a frenzy on social media, even leading to server crashes due to overwhelming traffic.

On January 6 this year, a video circulated online showing Lu Han making obscene gestures and remarks during a live stream on a social platform, resulting in a heated debate. Subsequently, his major social media accounts were set to “not be followed” on multiple platforms, whether it’s Weibo, Xiaohongshu, or Douyin, with the reason stated as “the user violates laws and regulations.” This news quickly trended as the top search. Lu Han’s studio Weibo account issued an apology statement in response.

On April 20, Lu Han’s 35th birthday saw an unusual absence of birthday wishes from Guan Xiaotong on her Weibo, contrary to the usual timely birthday greetings she would post at midnight in previous years. This silence from Guan Xiaotong has raised concerns among many fans, further fueling rumors of their breakup, to which neither of the parties has responded.

Born in Beijing in 1990, Lu Han graduated from Seoul Institute of The Arts in South Korea. While studying in South Korea in 2008, he was scouted by SM Entertainment and became a trainee under the agency. In 2012, he officially debuted as a member of the South Korean boy group EXO/EXO-M. In 2014, he terminated his contract with SM Entertainment and returned to China, reaching a settlement with the agency in 2016. He starred in TV dramas such as “20 Once Again,” “Sweet Combat,” and “Fighter of the Destiny,” among others. His debut music album “Reloaded” received the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) “Platinum Record” certification.
