Renowned Hong Kong artist, Law Ka-ying, who had battled liver cancer in 2004 and 2014, and was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2019, is currently facing cancer for the fourth time. Despite overcoming the disease multiple times, Law recently disclosed in an interview with mainland Chinese media that he has decided to forego radiation and chemotherapy treatments. Doctors have estimated that he may have a maximum of 9 years left to live.
During the interview, the host initially praised the 78-year-old Law Ka-ying for his resilience and spirit, remarking that he seemed to have more vitality than many younger individuals. When asked about his secret, Law candidly replied, “I am not afraid of death!”
Law Ka-ying revealed that he is currently undergoing his fourth battle with cancer, having been diagnosed with prostate cancer. He recounted asking his doctor about the potential lifespan if he were to undergo treatment, to which the doctor replied that he could possibly live for about 8 years. Law’s response was philosophical, mentioning that at his age, living to 90 years old is already considered long. Therefore, he expressed no fear in facing his fate. He made the decision to forgo conventional cancer treatments and intends to bid farewell in comfort when the time comes.
In a lighthearted remark, Law Ka-ying humorously stated, “I told cancer, if I die, you die too. It’s better if you don’t mess with me, and I won’t mess with you.” Many netizens were shocked by his words but praised Law for living so openly and contentedly.
Law Ka-ying was first diagnosed with liver cancer in 2004, underwent treatment, and gradually recovered. However, in 2014, the cancer recurred, with a 2-centimeter tumor appearing on his liver, leading to another round of hospitalization and treatment. Despite successfully battling cancer once again, the repeated treatments took a toll on his body, resulting in vocal cord damage during the last surgery, which necessitated speech therapy.
In 2019, Law Ka-ying was diagnosed with prostate cancer. Although he initially recovered, he experienced postoperative incontinence, requiring the use of diapers. Now facing cancer for the fourth time, he continues to confront each obstacle with a positive mindset.
Public records indicate that Law Ka-ying, born as Law Hang Tong, of Shunde, Guangdong, is a renowned Cantonese opera artist and a prominent figure in TVB dramas. In 1994, Law Ka-ying gained recognition for his roles in “A Chinese Odyssey” and “Journey to the West” in 1995.
