The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China (Taiwan) has collaborated with the transnational channel Discovery to launch the documentary “Taiwan Revealed: AI Technology Island,” which will be broadcasted in 19 countries and regions, showcasing Taiwan’s key influence in the global AI industry.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs released a press statement stating that in order to present Taiwan’s crucial role in the global semiconductor and artificial intelligence (AI) industry supply chain, they have cooperated with Discovery to produce the documentary “Taiwan Revealed: AI Technology Island.”
“Taiwan Revealed: AI Technology Island” will premiere on the Taiwan Discovery channel at 10:00 PM on May 9 and will be broadcasted in 19 countries and regions in Asia, including Southeast Asia, India, South Korea, and Japan starting from May 22. The full documentary will later be available on the channel’s YouTube platform for global viewing.
The film showcases Taiwan’s AI industry, from chip design in the upstream to breakthroughs in manufacturing technologies in the midstream, and integrated software and hardware services downstream, demonstrating Taiwan’s position at the forefront of global technology. It highlights Taiwan’s research and production capacity and application strength through cooperation between the public and private sectors.
In addition to tracing Taiwan’s technological revolution in nanoscale manufacturing, which has elevated Taiwan from a follower to a global leader in the industry, the documentary specifically introduces three successful cases: using AI vision and generative technology to inspect anomalies in solar panels, providing smart healthcare assistance to Palau, and assisting Czech Republic in training semiconductor chip research talents. These examples underscore Taiwan’s commitment not only to offering AI innovations as solutions but also to deepening substantial mutual beneficial relationships with friendly nations and like-minded countries, showcasing the diplomatic spirit of “steadfast diplomacy.”
The documentary “AI Technology Island” points out that whether it’s AI supercomputers, smartphones, or data centers, the core driving force behind them is the chips manufactured in Taiwan. The film vividly portrays Taiwan as a key influencer in the global semiconductor and AI industry, leading viewers to gain an in-depth understanding of how the semiconductor industry leverages AI to drive automation innovation, and to recognize the key figures driving this transformation.
Since 2011, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China (Taiwan) has collaborated with Discovery Channel to produce seven documentary films on different topics, which have been well-received and praised by audiences and professionals at home and abroad. The documentary film “Taste Taiwan” produced in cooperation with the channel in 2023 received two awards at the 16th annual “The Taste Awards” in the United States in March this year – “Best Non-English Language Program, Series, or Film” and “Best Asian Program.”
