Taiwan Tourism Bureau collaborated with the American public broadcaster travel and cultural program “Bare Feet with Mickela Mallozzi” on a special feature about Taiwan. In January of this year, the production team traveled to Taiwan to shoot two episodes. To celebrate International Dance Day on April 29, a media event was held in New York City with hundreds of media representatives and tourism officials from various countries. The preview of the Taiwan segment was the highlight of the evening!
With the assistance of the Taiwan Tourism Bureau, host Mickela Mallozzi and her production team embarked on a 10-day intensive filming journey across Taiwan at the beginning of this year. The team visited various locations such as Taipei 101, Yongkang Street in Xinyi District, Cloud Gate Dance Theatre in Tamsui, participating in a cultural dance with the Tsou tribe in Alishan, tea picking in the high mountains, experiencing traditional arts and face painting in Tainan, exploring historical temples and streets, innovative bars, and local Taiwanese cuisine.
“Bare Feet with Mickela Mallozzi” has won four Emmy Awards and is well-known in North America as one of PBS’s most popular travel and cultural programs. The host uses her dance background to immerse herself in local cultures and introduce audiences to worthwhile travel destinations worldwide.
The program is about to air its seventh and eighth seasons this year, with Taiwan being the only Asian country featured in these seasons. Two different episodes showcasing Taiwan are set to air in the United States and Canada by the end of October.
Since the launch of Taiwan’s tourism brand version 3.0, “TAIWAN-Waves of Wonder,” in May last year, Taiwan’s overseas offices have been promoting Taiwanese tourism worldwide with a focus on mountains, waters, and circling the island. Even with their extensive global travel experiences, the host and production team were amazed by Taiwan’s diverse and vibrant tourism and culture. The warmth of the people and the energy of the communities left a lasting impression, leading them to express their desire to return to Taiwan, explore more local delicacies, and experience different cultures throughout the island!
Director Zhuang Jing-zhen of the Tourism Bureau’s New York office expressed that through the program “Bare Feet with Mickela Mallozzi,” they aimed to showcase Taiwan’s vibrant life and diverse tourism and culture, focusing on themes loved by North American travelers such as culture, cuisine, and nature. By introducing Taiwan on a public television channel with a stable audience base in the United States, they hope to attract more North American visitors to Taiwan. Americans and Canadians can enjoy 90 days visa-free entry to Taiwan and take advantage of various travel promotions, such as the Taiwan High-Speed Rail two-for-one offer and the Taiwan the Lucky Land lucky draw, making travel to Taiwan convenient and enticing for international visitors to explore Taiwan’s beauty, food, and culture firsthand!
