The Mainland Affairs Council of the Republic of China (Taiwan) announced today (2nd) that in order to strengthen emergency assistance services for Taiwanese nationals traveling to mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macau, the council has established a consultation service hotline. This hotline will be managed by professionals who will provide assistance with the operation of the “Dynamic Registration System for Taiwanese Travelling to Mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macau” as well as offer advice on safety assessments regarding travel to these regions.
The Mainland Affairs Council stated that on June 25, the council merged the original “Dynamic Registration System for Taiwanese Travelling to Mainland China” and the “Dynamic Registration Webpage for Taiwanese Travelling to Hong Kong and Macau” into the “Dynamic Registration System for Taiwanese Travelling to Mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macau”. In order to provide consultation services for Taiwanese nationals regarding system operations or safety risks when traveling to mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macau, the Mainland Affairs Council and the Straits Exchange Foundation have set up a consultation service hotline, which is now operational.
Due to the Chinese Communist Party’s continuous amendments to national security laws in recent years, the Mainland Affairs Council of Taiwan pointed out that there have been numerous cases of Taiwanese nationals being illegally detained, restricted, and interrogated when traveling to mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macau. Recently, the Chinese Communist Party issued the “Opinions on Lawfully Punishing ‘Taiwan Independence’ Hardliners for Splitting the Country and Inciting Crimes of Splitting the Country,” which poses a serious threat to the personal safety of Taiwanese nationals traveling to mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macau. The government has deemed it necessary to raise the travel advisory level for these regions to “orange” since June 27, advising Taiwanese nationals to carefully assess the risks before traveling unnecessarily.
The Mainland Affairs Council of Taiwan stated that for those with a genuine need to travel to mainland China, Hong Kong, or Macau, the government encourages Taiwanese nationals to register relevant information on the “Dynamic Registration System for Taiwanese Travelling to Mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macau” before departure. This will facilitate immediate contact with emergency contacts in case of urgent situations.
The Mainland Affairs Council of Taiwan mentioned that for any inquiries or issues regarding the operation of the system or safety assessments when traveling to mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macau, the hotline service is available from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday to Friday. For travel to mainland China, individuals can call the Mainland Affairs Council hotline at “2397-5589 ext. 5011” or the Straits Exchange Foundation hotline at “2175-7000 ext. 7033”; for travel to Hong Kong and Macau, individuals can call the Mainland Affairs Council hotline at “2397-5589 ext. 6015”.
