The Queens World Film Festival in New York will focus on the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution this year. The “First Amendment Film and Arts Festival” will be held on November 13th and 14th in Astoria, Queens. Through films, artistic performances, and community dialogues, the festival aims to explore the importance of freedom of speech, freedom of the press, and civic engagement.
The First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution guarantees five basic freedoms, including freedom of speech, freedom of religion, freedom of the press, the right to peaceably assemble, and the right to petition the government.
Organized by Queens World, the festival is held in collaboration with the Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment (MOME) of New York City, LaGuardia Performing Arts Center, and the Queens Memory Project of the Queens Public Library.
During the festival, the Queens Memory Project will invite participants to share their experiences, listen to others’ stories, and discuss the importance of the right to peaceably assemble through community gatherings.
The organizers stated that this year’s activities will not only involve discussions on these constitutional rights but will also provide participants with the opportunity to experience the meaning of freedom of expression and civic engagement through film screenings, artistic performances, panel discussions, and community gatherings.
The festival will kick off on November 13th (Friday) at 11 a.m. with “The Right to Assemble: A Queens Memory Listening Tour Stop.” The event will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Sac’s Place within the historic Kaufman Astoria Studios in Astoria.
The festival will continue until November 14th. For more details, please visit the link: queensworldfilmfestival.org
