Recently, an announcement at Tian Jiabing Middle School in Yulin City, Guangxi Province, regarding the recruitment of a small convenience store worker through a written test and interview has sparked attention.
On August 30th, a reporter from “Xiaoxiang Morning Post • Morning Video” noticed that the position is intended to recruit one person. Applicants are required to have no criminal record, a high school degree or above, with male candidates under the age of 50 and female candidates under the age of 45. Those with relevant work experience will be given priority.
In addition to registration and qualification review, applicants must also pass through stages such as a written test, interview, and on-the-job training. Regarding compensation, the announcement stated that the salary is negotiable, and after the probation period ends, the school will purchase pension, medical, work injury, and unemployment insurance for the employed personnel according to policy. The announcement did not specify the scope of assessment for the written test and interview.
On August 30th, a teacher responsible for recruitment at the school responded to “Xiaoxiang Morning Post • Morning Video”, confirming the recruitment. The application deadline has passed, and the position is non-official. The teacher was not aware of the specific content of the examination.
Reports indicate that in recent times, schools in Yulin, Liuzhou, and Jingxi in Guangxi Province have all issued recruitment notices for logistical personnel; for example, at Liuzhou Sixth Middle School, the positions of financial and warehouse managers for the cafeteria’s convenience store require a written test and interview, while Jingxi Fifth Middle School is recruiting student dormitory supervisors who need to undergo interviews and comprehensive assessments. In Tongde County, Qinghai, security guards and cooks were also recruited through written tests.
This incident has once again sparked discussions among netizens about the job market environment.
Some netizens commented, “Even for such ordinary positions, the threshold is not low, reflecting the current job-seeking environment, and the number of unemployed individuals is not optimistic.” Others questioned, “Is job hunting so intense nowadays? Does even a convenience store salesperson need to take a written test and interview? What would be tested, memorizing products or accounting?”
Another netizen expressed, “For an ordinary logistical position, the process is so formal, indicating the intensification of the job market. With fierce competition for good positions, continuously raising job-seeking standards, it is becoming increasingly difficult for ordinary people to find employment.”
There were also comments stating, “Just by looking at the recruitment process for a convenience store position, we can see how poor the current job market is – from registration, qualification review, written tests, interviews, to on-the-job training – such grand recruitment efforts are just for the daily operation of a convenience store. Is it necessary to make it so complicated? Nowadays, even unemployed individuals can’t get hired even for a small convenience store position.”
