Shanghai Xupu Bridge Traffic Accident: 1 Dead, 2 Injured in Multi-Vehicle Collision.

On the morning of October 17th, around 6 a.m., a multiple-vehicle collision occurred on the main bridge deck of the Xupu Bridge Outer Ring in Shanghai. The accident resulted in one fatality and two injuries. The bridge was closed for an extended period of time, with traffic gradually resuming passage around 10:40 a.m. on the same day.

According to a circulated video from a dashboard camera,

the incident took place on the bridge deck heading from Puxi to Pudong. A white minivan appeared to attempt a reckless overtaking maneuver on the outer lane, swiftly changing lanes and cutting in front of a flatbed truck carrying large cylindrical cargo. The flatbed truck, unable to evade the minivan in time, collided directly with each other.

Under the impact of the collision, the truck lost control, crashed through the central barrier of the bridge, and entered the oncoming traffic lane, colliding with four oncoming vehicles that were traveling normally and unsuspectingly.

Footage related to the incident shows the severely deformed front end of the red flatbed truck, with the large cylindrical pipes it was carrying scattered across the bridge, sprawled over the surface. Several vehicles involved in the collision had twisted bodies, debris and oil scattered everywhere, covering the road.

The Minhang Branch of the Shanghai Public Security Bureau

issued a notice stating that

, following preliminary investigations, Wang (male, 39 years old), the driver of the flatbed truck, was traveling from Puxi to Pudong on the bridge deck when he collided with a minivan, subsequently veering into the opposite lane and colliding with four other vehicles. The accident resulted in one fatality. Two injured individuals were taken to the hospital for examination, with no immediate life-threatening conditions reported.

At present, Wang has been apprehended by the authorities, and the accident investigation and handling work are ongoing.
