On the evening of August 23, a thrilling scene unfolded at Century Avenue Station on Line 2 of the subway: a passenger forcibly rushed the doors and ended up wedged tightly between the platform door and the train door, narrowly avoiding a disaster.
According to reports from mainland Chinese media, around 8:24 pm on the 23rd, at the platform in the direction of the upline at Century Avenue Station on Line 2 of the subway, as a train about to depart issued a door-closing alert, a man suddenly rushed out from the platform, trying to squeeze into the car before the doors completely closed. However, his body got stuck in the narrow gap between the platform screen door and the train door, caught in a dilemma.
Online videos show the man with a pained expression after being caught. Passengers inside the train looked outside through the glass doors, following the situation.
At that time, the platform door alarm device was triggered, and station staff immediately rushed to the platform’s emergency stop button and activated the train’s emergency brakes. After the doors reopened, the trapped passenger was finally able to escape.
Although this “door-rushing” incident did not result in any casualties, it sent shivers down people’s spines.
Similar incidents of passengers rushing the doors have occurred in mainland China.
On August 20 this year, at a subway station in Guangzhou, a woman realized that her son had not followed her out of the train after she got off. In a panic, she forcefully squeezed her body into the closing platform screen door to enter the car, causing the door to malfunction and jam. The train was forced to temporarily stop operating, but subway staff promptly arrived to handle the situation, opened the screen door, and all passengers were able to safely get off and transfer.
Incidents of people rushing the doors and getting caught have also taken place at high-speed railway stations in China. On the evening of December 21, 2024, at Guangzhou South Station, a male passenger’s hand was caught in the closing door of a high-speed train that had already started, with his body hanging outside and being dragged for several meters. An employee on the high-speed train noticed the situation and urgently communicated via intercom to notify the train. Within seconds, the train applied emergency brakes, rescuing the passenger.
