According to Jiemu News, on August 22nd, a fellow villager and a local blogger from a neighboring village confirmed the news of “Da Shuai’s” passing.
Several informants revealed that “Da Shuai” was known as the “guardian of the village” in the local area, gaining popularity among netizens for appearing in short videos.
The account used a photo of “Da Shuai” as its profile picture, with most of the content set in rural backgrounds. “Da Shuai” was a familiar face in the videos. In May 2025, he recreated a scene from the movie “Kung Fu” where he played the role of the second in command of the Axe Gang. The video received 76,000 likes, leading to his increasing recognition among a large number of netizens. As of August 22nd, the account had 487,000 followers, and the video with the highest number of likes among the 207 videos posted had reached 1.19 million likes.
The obituary introduced that “Da Shuai” lost his mother at a young age and faced a difficult life with no formal education, coming from a poor family background. He had been dependent on his elderly father for many years and their livelihood mainly relied on welfare assistance and collecting recyclables.
Guo Jinhui, who had filmed videos with “Da Shuai,” mentioned that “Da Shuai” was born in 1981 in a rural area of Wenxi County, Yuncheng, Shanxi Province, with the birth name Cheng Xixi. He never received formal education and remained unmarried throughout his life.
