According to reports from Chinese media “The Beijing News”, on July 20th, several netizens posted videos claiming that a fire had broken out in the Suji ancient town area of Leshan, Sichuan.
From the scene, rows of houses were engulfed in flames. It seemed like the fire hydrants were not working, as a large portion of the ancient town’s buildings were being consumed by the fire.
Netizens commented, “Recently, Suji ancient town was flooded, and now there’s a fire again. The ancient-style buildings are constructed with wood, making them prone to fires.” “It’s like going from bad to worse.”
On July 20th, the Suji Town Government in the central district of Leshan City, Sichuan Province, issued a situation report stating: At 6:22 on July 20th, a fire broke out on Guihua Road in the Suji Town of the central district of Leshan City. The open flames were extinguished around 6:50, and this fire incident did not result in any casualties. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
