G.E.M. Worries about Hong Kong Fire, Tears at Concert.

On November 26, a major fire broke out at the Hongfu Garden in Tai Po, Hong Kong, resulting in significant casualties. Hong Kong singer G.E.M. held her “I AM GLORIA” concert in Nanning, Guangxi, China recently. Shortly after the concert began, she lost control of her emotions and tears fell on the stage.

During the concert, G.E.M. did not start with upbeat songs as usual but chose to mourn the victims of the recent large-scale fire in Hong Kong in her own way. During an interactive segment, G.E.M. wore a serious expression and said to the audience, “These days have been very sad for Hong Kong.” She then choked up multiple times, wiping away tears. The fans in the audience fell silent, with many visibly moved to tears.

Seeing their idol suddenly unable to hold back tears on stage, the fans felt heartbroken and collectively shouted, “Don’t cry” and “Stay strong.” After regaining her composure, G.E.M. explained that her tears were not solely due to personal sadness but were a response to the heartbreaking news of the Hong Kong fire that had shaken her deeply in recent days.

As of the afternoon of December 2, the death toll from the 5th alarm fire at Hongfu Garden in Tai Po had risen to 156, with some bodies burnt to ashes. The fire destroyed the interior of several units in the building, leaving a scene of devastation. December 2 marked the seventh day since the tragedy, with a somber atmosphere prevailing throughout Hong Kong.

G.E.M., who quietly donated HK$1 million, expressed feeling helpless in the face of such disaster and acknowledged the limited impact of individual efforts. Nevertheless, she hoped to convey some warmth and strength through her music during this difficult time.

Wiping away her tears, G.E.M. addressed the audience, saying, “For my friends facing disasters, for those enduring hardships in life, I just want to know if you are striving, staying positive, and living well.” She encouraged all those going through tough times or facing disasters, emphasizing the importance of supporting each other and moving forward together, no matter how challenging life may be.
