Sichuan Province’s Top Official Ousted: Former Vice Chairman of Provincial Political Consultative Conference Cui Baohua Under Investigation

Former vice chairman of Sichuan Provincial Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), Cui Baohua, who stepped down two years ago, has been officially under investigation. He is the “first tiger” in Sichuan this year and the 39th senior executive to be investigated nationwide.

On August 27, the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Supervisory Commission announced on their website that Cui Baohua, former deputy secretary of the Party group and vice chairman of the CPPCC in Sichuan Province, is suspected of serious violations of discipline and law, and is currently undergoing disciplinary review and supervision investigation by the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Supervisory Commission.

Shortly before his downfall, Cui Baohua also participated in some public activities.

According to a report on the WeChat public account “Tongxin Sichuan” of the Sichuan Provincial United Front Work Department of the Communist Party of China on July 16, Cui Baohua recently participated in a party discipline learning and education activity for retired cadres and a summer health retreat. On July 22, he attended the opening ceremony of the art exhibition “Danqing Zhuanghuai” Xu Li Art Works Exhibition (Sichuan Station). On August 2, he attended the cultural and art exhibition “Harmony and Beauty, Coexistence of All Things” on biodiversity.

Public records show that Cui Baohua was born in November 1958 in Juye, Shandong Province, and started working in December 1976.

In his early years, Cui Baohua served in the Chinese Communist military for 16 years. After changing careers, he worked in the Office of the Ministry of Personnel of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China for 11 years, rising to the position of Deputy Director of the Office of the Ministry of Personnel.

Since 2001, Cui Baohua has been working in Sichuan for a long time, serving as Deputy Mayor of Deyang, Director of the Executive Office of the Sichuan Provincial Party Committee, Deputy Secretary and Deputy Mayor of Meishan City, Acting Mayor of Meishan City, Deputy Secretary and Mayor of Meishan City, Secretary of Suining City Party Committee, and Chairman of Suining City People’s Congress.

In April 2015, Cui Baohua became a member of the Standing Committee of Sichuan Provincial Party Committee, Minister of the United Front Work Department of the provincial party committee, and Vice Chairman of the 11th Sichuan Provincial CPPCC.

In May 2017, Cui Baohua stepped down as a member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Sichuan Provincial Committee and Minister of the United Front Work Department. In January 2022, he resigned from the position of Vice Chairman of the Sichuan Provincial CPPCC.

It is worth noting that on November 16 last year, Yang Kening, Vice Chairman of the Sichuan Provincial CPPCC, was investigated. Cui and Yang worked together at the Sichuan Provincial CPPCC for a year.
