After a nine-year wait and with the potential to harvest deposits amounting to millions of dollars, Tesla finally unveiled the second-generation Roadster on October 15. The new Roadster comes in three versions, all with a hefty price tag.
According to the Tesla website, the new Roadster is divided into the Performance, Thrust, and Rocket versions. The Performance model features a two-seat layout and is road-legal, with a deposit of $50,000 in the United States. The Thrust version is limited in availability, meant for track use only, and is equipped with a cold air jet thruster at the rear, boasting an official claim of zero to sixty acceleration in less than 1 second with a $250,000 deposit. However, most people probably wouldn’t be willing to invest that much money in a Tesla Roadster, let alone the Rocket version that can “fly”.
Fortunately, there are other electric vehicles on the market that offer excellent performance, rich features, and prices that are not as exorbitant as the Roadster.
“USA Today” has introduced three electric vehicles that are both sporty and powerful, serving as alternative choices to the Roadster.
The Hyundai Ioniq 5 N is a performance-oriented compact electric SUV with a starting price of $59,900, although not cheap, it is far below the expected price of the Roadster. In terms of specifications and features, the Ioniq 5 N offers great value for its performance.
This high-performance electric vehicle under Hyundai boasts 641 horsepower, accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.25 seconds. The Ioniq 5 N comes standard with features like Drag mode, Track mode, launch control, and Hyundai’s “N Grin Boost” acceleration enhancement.
If you are in need of a practical daily driver that also delivers high-performance, the Ioniq 5 N is an excellent choice.
While Tesla may have ceased production of the Model S, it doesn’t mean you can’t get your hands on one. As vehicles depreciate, this high-performance electric car becomes more affordable, including its top-tier Plaid model.
At CarMax, the largest chain of used car dealerships and trading platforms in the U.S., you can own a used Tesla Model S Plaid for under $61,000. It boasts an astonishing 1,020 horsepower and accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in just 1.99 seconds.
The original starting price of the Tesla Model S Plaid was around $129,990. By purchasing a used Model S Plaid, you can own a performance-oriented, impressively accelerating electric car at a more affordable price.
For regular drivers who don’t want to spend a six-figure sum, this used car might be the best alternative option to experience the style and acceleration performance of the Tesla Roadster.
The Lucid Air lineup of electric vehicles includes four different configurations, with the Air Grand Touring being one of them. The 2026 Lucid Air Grand Touring starts at $114,900, making it the highest-priced option on this list.
This vehicle boasts a powerful 819 horsepower. The Air Grand Touring version speeds from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.0 seconds, which is quite impressive for its size. Although Lucid’s electric cars may not match the speed of the higher-priced Tesla Roadster, it offers an impressive 480 miles (about 772 kilometers) of range.
Moreover, the Lucid Air Grand Touring is equipped with 20-way power-adjustable, heated, ventilated, and massage-function front seats, a leather interior, and Lucid’s advanced DreamDrive driver assistance system.
Lucid’s electric vehicles offer strong performance, luxury comfort, and practicality as a high-performance model.
While the price may be steep, it provides a unique ownership experience and is much more affordable compared to the Roadster’s astronomical price.
