Today is “Ginger Cat Appreciation Day.” This heartwarming holiday was founded in 2014 by Chris Roy, a software engineer from Wisconsin, USA, to honor his longtime companion, a ginger cat named Doobert.
Doobert was a stray kitten adopted by Roy. After Doobert passed away, Roy established an animal rescue technology company named Doobert in its honor, using information technology to connect animals in need of care with rescue organizations and volunteers. Every September 1st, cat lovers also take this opportunity to show their love and appreciation for ginger cats.
September 1st is also recognized as “World Letter Writing Day.” This holiday was initiated in 2014 by Australian writer and artist Richard Simpkin, encouraging people to temporarily set aside digital devices and write a letter to a distant friend, parents, or even their future selves.
