Four members of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) have had their qualifications revoked, the first time that Gu Xueming, director of the International Trade and Economic Cooperation Research Institute of the Ministry of Commerce, has been publicly implicated.
According to the official Xinhua News Agency of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), the 54th Chairpersons’ Meeting of the 14th National Committee of the CPPCC was held in Beijing on the 24th. The subsequent communiqué revealed that Gu Xueming, Hao Rong, Xin Bao’an, and Li Heyue had their qualifications as members of the 14th National Committee of the CPPCC revoked.
Gu Xueming is the director of the International Trade and Economic Cooperation Research Institute of the Ministry of Commerce; Hao Rong is the former Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and President of the Central Academy of Drama; Xin Bao’an is the former Chairman and Party Committee Secretary of State Grid Corporation of China; Li Heyue is the former Deputy Chief Engineer of the Songliao Water Conservancy Commission of the Ministry of Water Resources and a Level-Two Inspector.
Gu Xueming being publicly implicated is a first, as the other three individuals had been previously announced to have been removed from their positions.
Public information shows that Gu Xueming is a member of the expert group for the top-level design of the CCP’s national innovation-driven development strategy. The reasons for his current situation are unclear.
