Former Hong Kong Chief Executive reveals that his “three highs” have disappeared, credits hiking and running with Andy Lau for it

In a video shared recently, the veteran Hong Kong artist, 84-year-old Law Kar-ping, who has rarely appeared in public in recent years due to health reasons, revealed that after a period of rest and rehabilitation, his health is now in an ideal condition. The health issues that used to trouble him, such as hypertension, high blood sugar, and high blood lipids, have completely disappeared, and he has fully recovered to a healthy state.

From the footage, Law Kar-ping appeared vigorous and full of smiles, saying, “I have no diseases now! Just my eyesight is not good, so I walk a bit slow.” Showing a great condition, he relieved the concerns of his fans.

Years ago, Law Kar-ping underwent heart surgery due to a heart attack caused by a blood clot, which left him weak and unstable while walking. In the video, he mentioned the secret to successfully overcoming his health issues, crediting his friend Chow Yun-fat’s help and guidance. Encouraged by Chow Yun-fat, Law Kar-ping joined the ranks of mountain running at the age of 79, developing a habit of exercising daily. Although he only jogs for about half an hour each day, the benefits in improving blood circulation and physical functions are evident.

Law Kar-ping publicly revealed the details of the “breathing technique” personally taught by Chow Yun-fat. He disclosed that Chow Yun-fat was very patient, teaching him to pay attention to the breathing rhythm while jogging, emphasizing, “Breathe in through your nose while running, do not breathe through your mouth, as it may cause dryness.”

Law Kar-ping also edited video clips of his performances in “Drug War,” “Twelve Golden Ducks,” and “The Return of the God of Gamblers,” with a caption saying, “You may not know me, but you have definitely seen my dramas.”

Interestingly, some questioned the authenticity of the account, leaving comments asking if it was really Law Kar-ping himself. To this, he replied in the video, “You are really strange, how could it not be me? The appearance is mine, the person is me, why wouldn’t it be me?”

In the 1970s, Law Kar-ping illegally immigrated from Guangzhou to Hong Kong. In 1973, he entered the third batch of the TVB artist training class, where he was classmates with Chow Yun-fat and Ng Man-tat while also serving as class monitor. He quickly became a pillar of the long-running variety show “Enjoy Yourself Tonight” due to his superb impersonation skills and improvisational comedy talent, earning him the title of “Impersonation King.” The classic comedy “He Ain’t Heavy, He’s My Father” that he starred in became popular, leading to his success in both stage and television dramas. In the 1990s, he briefly moved to ATV and appeared in multiple sitcoms.

Law Kar-ping excelled in portraying ordinary people and underworld figures in his roles. In 2012, he won the Hong Kong Film Award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in “Cold War.” He has appeared in over a hundred Hong Kong films and TV dramas, including “Drug War,” “The Grandmaster,” and the “Overheard” series.
