According to authorities, a 4.7 magnitude earthquake struck the Campi Flegrei area near the southern Italian city of Naples on Friday (July 31) local time. The earthquake resulted in power outages, disruptions in transportation services (including trains and subways), and damage to some buildings. Additionally, the earthquake caused large rocks to roll down, hitting and crushing parked vehicles.
The National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology in Italy stated that the earthquake occurred at 7:46 p.m. local time on Friday, with the epicenter located in the Campi Flegrei area west of Naples, at a depth of approximately 3 kilometers (2 miles).
The Italian fire department reported that there were indications of slight damage to buildings in Naples and surrounding areas, but rescue personnel have not received any emergency requests for assistance or rescuing residents.
Local officials have announced that local railway and subway services have been temporarily suspended for safety reasons.
According to Italian media reports, this is one of the strongest earthquakes on record in the region. During the earthquake, residents of some neighborhoods rushed to the streets for safety.
