After nearly half a year since his downfall, Peng Xiaochun, former party member and vice chairman of the Political Consultative Conference of the Zhuang Autonomous Region of the Chinese Communist Party, has been expelled from the Party, had his benefits revoked, and was transferred to judicial authorities.
On December 8, the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Supervisory Commission of the Chinese Communist Party announced that Peng Xiaochun had resisted organizational review, accepted banquets and travel arrangements in violation of rules, failed to report personal matters as required, accepted gifts and money improperly, held shares of unlisted companies in violation of regulations, engaged in rampant greed, engaged in power-money transactions, used his position for personal gain in project contracting and fund disbursement, illegally accepted huge sums of money, committed serious violations of duty, and is suspected of bribery.
According to the announcement, Peng Xiaochun has been expelled from the Party, had his benefits terminated, and his qualifications as a delegate to the 12th Party Congress of the Zhuang Autonomous Region of Guangxi have been rescinded. He has also been referred to the judicial authorities.
On June 16 this year, Peng Xiaochun was officially investigated, becoming the 28th high-ranking official to be reported by the authorities since the beginning of this year.
Public records show that Peng Xiaochun, born in November 1961 in Hepu, Guangxi, became a secretary in the Party Committee Office of the Zhuang Autonomous Region of Guangxi in 1992. Subsequently, Peng Xiaochun served as Deputy Secretary of the Longzhou County Party Committee, Deputy Secretary of the Nanning Municipal Party Committee, Secretary of the Fusuai County Party Committee, Deputy Secretary of the Liuzhou Municipal Party Committee from 2004 to 2008, Director of the Party Committee Office of the Autonomous Region and Director of the Policy Research Office of the District Party Committee from 2008 to 2010.
In 2010, Peng Xiaochun was appointed Secretary of the Hezhou Municipal Party Committee and concurrently served as Chairman of the Municipal People’s Congress Standing Committee. In 2013, he took over as Secretary of the Baise Municipal Party Committee, while concurrently serving as Chairman of the Municipal People’s Congress Standing Committee.
In 2018, Peng Xiaochun became Vice Chairman of the Political Consultative Conference of the Zhuang Autonomous Region of Guangxi. In 2021, he relinquished his position as Secretary of the Baise Municipal Party Committee to focus on his work in the Political Consultative Conference. In January 2023, Peng Xiaochun stepped down from his position as Vice Chairman of the Autonomous Region Political Consultative Conference.
It is worth noting that Peng Xiaochun was once an old subordinate of Lan Tianli, the former Chairman of the Guangxi Autonomous Region Government, with their positions in 2018 being referred to as Chairman and Vice Chairman of the Guangxi Political Consultative Conference, respectively.
On May 16 this year, Lan Tianli was reported to have fallen from power, one month ahead of Peng Xiaochun. On December 8, Lan Tianli was subjected to double disciplinary action and transferred to judicial authorities. Four days later, Peng Xiaochun followed suit.
