Family of Three Encounter Storm While Visiting Beihai, Father Missing, Son in ICU

Recently, Ms. Deng and her family from Guangdong went to the mangrove forests of Beihai in Guangxi to “harvest seafood” and encountered a sudden storm. All three of them were swept away by the waves, with their son being rescued and sent to the ICU, while her husband remains missing.

On August 1st, Ms. Liang, the daughter of Ms. Deng from Guangdong, posted that in the early morning around 6 or 7 o’clock, her father went “harvesting seafood” in the mangrove forests of Beihai, Guangxi, and went missing after being swept away by the waves.

She mentioned that her father was wearing a blue shirt and jeans when he went missing, and he did not have a cellphone with him. She hoped that if any kind-hearted person found any trace of her father, they would promptly report it to the authorities or contact her.

“Harvesting seafood” refers to the activity of picking up sea products such as shells, crabs, or catching marine animals by hand on the coast or rocks during ebb tide.

On August 2nd, Ms. Deng told Jimo News that they, a family of three from Guangdong, went to Beihai for a vacation. Around 6 a.m. on the 1st, she, her husband, and their 21-year-old son went to the mangrove forests of Beihai to “harvest seafood”, but the weather suddenly changed, and a storm hit, reducing visibility.

Ms. Deng’s husband immediately pulled her and their son toward the shore, but the water kept getting deeper, leading to the three of them being scattered by the strong current.

She recalled that after they were separated, she managed to stay afloat by breathing through her mouth and calling for help when she spotted a boat. At the same time, she saw her son floating not far from her.

She quickly swam to her son, embraced him, and found his face, mouth, and limbs all bruised, in a state of shock. They were later rescued by fishermen, and her son was taken to the hospital for treatment. Meanwhile, she tried to find any information about her missing husband but had no success.

Currently, her son remains in the intensive care unit due to a lung infection.

Regarding this incident, netizens have been actively discussing:

“No matter how sudden the change is, it won’t happen instantly. When going out for a trip, it is important to maintain a sense of awe, check the weather, and make sufficient mental and physical preparations.”

“It is estimated that they are from the inland areas of Guangdong. Generally, people living along the coast are aware that they should not go ‘harvesting seafood’ on rainy days, as heavy rain and strong winds often lead to high tides, causing water levels to rise to waist-deep within 10 minutes.”

“I live in Beihai City. I often go jogging in the morning. On August 1st, I woke up at 5:30 am and saw the gloomy weather, so I stayed indoors. Around 6 am, there was a sudden heavy rain. Last October, I encountered a sudden weather change while jogging. A strong wind started blowing, and the temperature dropped from over twenty degrees Celsius to around ten degrees, making me shiver. Some weather changes simply cannot be predicted by forecasts.”
