A shooting incident occurred in Marin County, Northern California on Sunday (11th), as reported by Epoch Times on October 13, 2026. Preliminary investigation indicates that a retired police sergeant from San Francisco fatally shot his wife and adult daughter before turning the gun on himself. The case is suspected to involve two murders and a suicide.
The Marin County Sheriff’s Office stated on Monday (12th) that preliminary investigation revealed 68-year-old retired San Francisco police sergeant Kevin Mannix shot his wife, 65-year-old retired deputy chief of police Ann Mannix, and their 24-year-old daughter Katherine Mannix, before taking his own life. The Sheriff’s Office mentioned that the motive behind the shooter’s actions remains unclear.
According to Miguel Almaguer from the Marin County Sheriff’s Office, officers responded to a call at 5:03 p.m. on Sunday reporting a shooting in the Strawberry Circle community, located north of San Francisco near Mill Valley.
Upon arrival, officers found an individual inside the house who had made the emergency call. After ensuring the safety of the caller, the officers secured the surrounding area and entered the residence.
An emergency police dispatch recording obtained by the San Francisco Chronicle reveals that the caller identified Kevin Mannix as the shooter in the incident, mentioning hearing 6 to 9 gunshots. The caller also informed the dispatcher that Mannix had consumed red wine before the incident.
During a press conference, Almaguer confirmed that three bodies were discovered inside the house by the officers.
Initially uncertain of the relationship among the three deceased individuals, San Francisco Police Chief Derrick Lew sent an email to the department hours later confirming the identities of Ann and Kevin Mannix.
“We are saddened to report the passing of Ann and Kevin Mannix. Please keep their families in your thoughts,” stated the email from Lew.
Following the tragedy, the San Francisco Police Officers Association issued a statement on Monday regarding the deaths of Ann and Kevin Mannix along with their daughter.
“No words can adequately express the profound sorrow of this tragedy, nor are there simple answers to the painful questions that haunt us all,” the statement read. “The apparent murder-suicide involving retired Deputy Chief Ann Mannix, her daughter Katie, and retired Sergeant Kevin Mannix has tragically taken them from our extended San Francisco Police Department family, leaving us still struggling to cope with the deep grief.”
The association highlighted that Ann Mannix, a fourth-generation San Franciscan, had served a commendable 37-year career within the police department, risking her life daily in the line of duty and earning the title of a “trailblazer” within the San Francisco Police Department.
