A video circulating online showed thick black smoke billowing on the scene, with flames emerging from the dense smoke.
Shortly after, the topic labeled “Chengdu Fire” trended on Weibo’s hot search.
Netizens commented one after another: “A big fire erupted near East Gate of Chengdu, with thick black smoke visible from over ten kilometers away.” “The black smoke indicates a significant fire.” “It’s a huge fire, hopefully no injuries. ” “Chengdu is under a red high temperature warning today, hopefully no casualties.”
On July 22, the Chengdu Longquanyi District Emergency Management Bureau issued a situation report, stating that a fire occurred in a warehouse at 418 Donghong Road, Donghong Community, Damao Street at 14:40 on the same day. The open flames were extinguished by 15:50, with a fire area of approximately 300 square meters, and no casualties were reported. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Subsequently, the Chengdu Fire and Rescue Brigade Command Center reported that at 14:40 on July 22, they received an alarm about a fire in a warehouse on Donghong Road in Damao Street. It was observed that a single-story colored steel structure building was on fire. Currently, it is being handled, the fire has been brought under control, and no reports have been received of anyone being trapped.
