On October 15, 2026, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China (Taiwan), Joseph Wu, led a delegation to visit Poland from the 11th to the 14th. During the visit, they toured the Polish National Research Network Institute for Microelectronics and Optoelectronics, and announced the establishment of a cooperative program focusing on gallium nitride (GaN) chip technology. This marks the first collaboration between Taiwan’s semiconductor resilient cooperation plan and Poland.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China issued a press release stating that Minister Joseph Wu’s delegation visited Poland and met with important pro-Taiwan lawmakers, including Former Acting President and current Chairman of the Senate Foreign Affairs Committee Grzegorz Schetyna, Chairman of the Poland-Taiwan Parliamentary Group Krzysztof Truskolaski, Former Lithuanian Minister of Defense Dovilė Šakalienė, Czech European Parliament member Markéta Gregorová, and Chairman of the Estonian Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee Marko Mihkelson.
Minister Wu also visited the Polish National Research Network Institute for Microelectronics and Optoelectronics to announce Taiwan’s collaboration with Poland in establishing a cooperative project on gallium nitride (GaN) chip technology. The representatives of both sides are expected to sign a memorandum of cooperation in the near future, marking the first cooperation between Taiwan’s semiconductor resilience cooperation plan and Poland. The project will be jointly executed by the Industrial Technology Research Institute of Taiwan and the Polish National Research Network Institute for Microelectronics and Optoelectronics.
This initiative will combine the research capabilities and industrial resources of Taiwan and Poland, creating a mutually beneficial industry cycle of “Taiwan’s technology export, Poland’s application implementation, and manufacturing demand returning to Taiwan.” It aims to strengthen the power semiconductor technology of both countries and expand market opportunities in high-power applications such as electric vehicles and energy.
Minister Wu also visited Acer’s Poland factory located in Wrocław, covering an area of approximately 20,000 square meters with around 400 employees. The factory serves as a key link in Acer’s European supply chain and an essential service center for warranty repairs. He gained insight into how Taiwanese companies use Poland as a gateway to invest in Europe and exchanged views on the actual situation of Taiwanese investment in Poland.
During his trip, Minister Wu also visited the Polish Center for International Aid (PCPM), where he met with local partners collaborating on aid projects in Ukraine between Taiwan and Poland. He reiterated Taiwan’s unwavering support for Ukraine and expressed hope for continued cooperation with PCPM to promote humanitarian aid programs and assist in the post-war reconstruction of Ukraine. Minister Wu also met with a journalist of Polish origin who had previously visited Taiwan for a short-term study, sharing the achievements of Taiwan’s aid projects in Ukraine.
Minister Wu took to Facebook today (October 15) to announce that he has concluded his flash visit to Poland and returned to his home country. During his visit, he delivered a speech at the Warsaw Security Forum and met with Roger Wicker, Chairman of the United States Senate Committee on Armed Services, on the sidelines. He expressed his special thanks to Wicker on behalf of President Lai Ching-te for his long-term support for Taiwan, especially during his recent statements in the Senate, which President Lai and the national security team greatly admired for their impactful and humorous delivery. He also appreciated Wicker’s continued efforts in advocating for Taiwan on U.S.-Taiwan relations and security issues post the summit between the United States and China.
Minister Wu mentioned that Chairman Wicker shared his experience of visiting Taiwan by military aircraft in the past. Wicker expressed his happiness that his remarks were heard by Taiwanese friends and was delighted to have met Minister Wu in Warsaw. Minister Wu stated that aside from sharing Taiwan’s perspectives at the forum, he was pleased to engage in exchanges with Taiwan’s supportive friends during this visit.
