According to a recall report released by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) website on Thursday, July 30, Galanz Americas Limited Company is recalling approximately 121,680 units of Galanz Retro Refrigerators due to potential electrical component issues that could result in short circuits leading to fires, posing serious fire and burn hazards, which have previously resulted in one fatality.
The recalled refrigerators were manufactured by Zhongshan Galanz in China and imported by Home Depot and Galanz Americas Limited Company.
CPSC has received 34 reports of fires involving this particular model of refrigerator.
Galanz Americas estimates that around 121,680 refrigerators were sold through Home Depot stores and Amazon website across the United States, priced between $330 and $530.
The recall notice specifies that these refrigerators are approximately 58 inches tall, 24 inches deep, and 21 inches wide, available in colors including black, blue, red, and white.
The affected refrigerators were manufactured between December 2018 and December 2020, with models numbers BCD-215V-62H, GLR76TRDER, GLR76TBKER, GLR76TBEER, or GLR76TWEER.
The product model, “Galanz” trademark, and production date code are printed on a white label on the upper left corner on the back of the unit.
The company advises consumers to immediately unplug the recalled refrigerators, cease using them, and wait until repairs are completed. Consumers are instructed to contact Galanz Americas to arrange for qualified technicians to perform the repairs free of charge.
