According to a report by News 12 TV station, a Wanda Coach bus overturned on a section of the highway in Ulster County, New York on the morning of the 21st, resulting in 11 passengers being injured and sent to the hospital.
A passenger from Brooklyn stated that the bus lost control and overturned after being grazed by a box truck.
New York State Police stated that the accident occurred around 9:20 a.m. between exits 17 and 18 in Plattekill town, with approximately 23 passengers on board. About half of the passengers sustained minor injuries, with 11 of them being sent to the hospital. The remaining passengers were medically examined and transferred to another bus heading to New York City. State Police mentioned that there are no reports of life-threatening injuries at the moment, and the cause of the accident is still under investigation.
New York State Attorney General announced on July 20th that a 56-year-old woman from Rochester, T. Echols, is accused of embezzling $154,000 between January 2023 and August 2025 while serving as a senior billing specialist at a nursing center. She was responsible for collecting copays from clients and issuing refund checks when they overpaid the nursing home. Taking advantage of her position, she forged refund checks to pay off debts to businesses, family, and acquaintances, receiving back most of the amount after deducting a small fee from them. The woman has been charged with second-degree grand larceny and first-degree scheme to defraud, facing a possible sentence of 5 to 15 years if convicted. The defendant has been arrested and arraigned recently.
During a Gun Buyback event held in Brooklyn last weekend by the Attorney General’s Office, the Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office, the Police Department, and the State Comptroller’s Office, a total of 191 firearms were collected, including 9 assault weapons, 162 handguns, and 4 long guns. The Attorney General stated that for every gun turned in, a life could potentially be saved and a tragedy avoided.
Since taking office in 2019, her gun buyback program has helped recover nearly 10,000 firearms statewide. The Police Commissioner of New York City mentioned that so far this year, over 2,700 firearms have been seized from the streets, leading to historic lows in gun violence and homicides. The authorities will continue to collaborate with various sectors to enhance community safety.
On July 20th, a temporary restraining order was granted in a court in New York and 12 other states, halting the $110 billion merger between Paramount Skydance and Warner Bros. Discovery until the court rules on the preliminary injunction.
Attorney General of New York highlighted that this decision is a significant victory in protecting market competition and consumers. If the two media giants were to merge, it could weaken competition in the entertainment industry, reducing consumer choice, increasing prices, and impacting creators and workers in the film, television, and streaming media markets. A hearing will be held on August 3rd to decide whether to issue a preliminary injunction, continuing to prevent the merger from being finalized during the litigation process.
