13 People Missing After Collapse at Construction Site of Shenzhen Bao’an Railway

Shenzhen Shenjiang Railway Section 5 construction site experienced a sudden ground collapse in the late night of December 4, causing at least 13 workers to go missing.

Online videos show that the collapsed area is massive in size and depth. Following the ground collapse, temporary traffic control measures were implemented in the surrounding areas, with many vehicles and pedestrians being stopped. According to netizens, “Early this morning (December 5 morning), all the surrounding highways and roads were closed.”

The emergency management bureau of Bao’an District in Shenzhen reported on December 5 that around 23:00 on December 4, a sudden ground collapse occurred at the construction site of Shenjiang Railway Section 5 on Zhou Shi Road in Hangcheng Street, Bao’an District. The construction unit reported that 13 on-site workers were missing.

Due to the Chinese Communist Party’s tendency to cover up the real situation, the actual extent of casualties is unknown.

On the morning of December 5, Shenzhen Public Security Bureau’s Traffic Police issued a notice to temporarily close some roads. This included the closure of both directions from Shenhai Expressway (Jihe Expressway) Hezhou Interchange to Tangtou Interchange; closure of both directions from Zhou Shi Road North Second Road to Jiawei Road Intersection, with a partial closure in the east-west direction from Zhou Shi Road Jiawei Road Intersection to Nanguang Expressway section; and the closure of the exit ramp from Tongle Road Zhongshanyuan Road Intersection in the north-south direction.

The incident has drawn attention from netizens. Many expressed their concerns, with one saying, “There are unemployed people all over the country, yet only this subway project has cement mixer trucks roaring their engines at 2 am, greatly disturbing the residents.” Another commented, “Many projects lack sufficient funding but face repeated schedule compression, putting immense pressure on the construction units.” Another netizen sadly remarked, “Estimating that lives have been lost, and it’s almost time for the Lunar New Year, what a pity.” One person recalled a past incident, saying, “When there was a collapse years ago, the search and rescue time was short before hastily filling it with cement, leaving the missing people…”

“Today’s news, just a passing remark.” “Even India is safer than us.” “The hardships of the working class.”
