U.S. Second Lady Usha Vance gave her first media interview on Tuesday (August 4th) since giving birth to her fourth child a few weeks ago, candidly sharing her joy at being a mother to a newborn again and how she manages four children.
According to Fox News, Usha, after the birth of her and U.S. Vice President Vance’s fourth child, sat down for a video interview at the Vice President’s residence on Tuesday, sharing the happiness this new baby has brought to their entire family.
Talking about the experience of having four children, the Second Lady said, “So far, it has been really wonderful. One of the lovely things is how excited my older children are about their new brother. They are always eager to hold him. When we change his diapers or clothes, they are always there to help. They are willing to pat his back to burp him, want to fetch things for him, want to make him smile.”
She added, “So, in this wonderful way, their needs and his needs complement each other.”
The baby was born on the morning of July 19th. Vice President Vance announced on social media that day that he and Usha named their new son Alec Neel Vance.
During the interview with Fox News on Tuesday, Usha also stressed the importance for her and her husband to spend individual time with each of their children, including the newborn.
She said, “For them, they feel like they get their own time with each of us separately.”
“For example, we go out to do things every day. We’ve been doing that since the day we came back from the hospital. Yesterday was my second child’s turn, we went to a bookstore, had lunch, quickly returned an item to a store, and the whole time just felt special.” Mrs. Vance said, and added, “We are trying to keep it that way.”
She also mentioned feeling a bit anxious not long ago about adding another child, as she felt her family was already complete and her children were entering a new stage of growth.
But now, she expressed, “I am really glad we took action. We were a bit adventurous in deciding to step into this unknown realm, a bit risky for what seemed like a stable and happy family situation, but I am now truly happy about it, because this family has just become even happier.”
