Last Sunday, on August 2nd, dozens of Chinese people gathered in front of the Chinese Consulate General in Los Angeles on the day following the Chinese Communist Party’s “Army Day”, protesting against the authorities’ internal high-pressure stability maintenance policy and military intimidation under the guise of “Army Day”.
The protesters collectively shouted slogans such as “strongly condemn the use of armed forces to oppress the people”, “the military must be nationalized”, and “end one-party dictatorship” outside the consulate, denouncing the CCP for turning the national military into a party-run army to maintain power.
Yi Yong, a member of the Chinese Democratic Party, pointed out in his opening speech that from the day of its establishment, the CCP’s army has not belonged to the nation and the people as a national defense force, but rather as a political tool and party army owned by the CCP. Faced with the harsh reality of declining people’s livelihoods domestically, the CCP allocates vast amounts of financial resources to military expansion and military intimidation.
Yi Yong stated, “We will never accept terror and silence under the threat of firearms, and we must shout out for justice on behalf of our oppressed compatriots.”
During the gathering, several democratic individuals took the stage to condemn the CCP’s tyranny from various angles including depriving people’s livelihoods, military expenditure expansion, and authoritarian stability maintenance.
Zhou Lanying, Vice Chairman of the Los Angeles branch of the China Democratic Party National United Headquarters in the Western United States, emphasized that the CCP’s army is funded by the Chinese people. However, the “Constitution of the Communist Party of China” states: “The Communist Party of China adheres to the absolute leadership of the People’s Liberation Army and other armed forces of the people.” As a result, during the events of 1989, the CCP resorted to using tanks and machine guns to brutally suppress the people.
She stressed, “The army funded by the people should serve the people, not become a tool for a dictatorial regime to suppress popular opinion.”
Wang Zunfu, a member of the China Democratic Party, stated during his speech that the lies about the “ninety-nine years of army building” by the CCP must be exposed. He said that this army is financed by the sweat and blood of all Chinese taxpayers but only defends the private property of the Communist Party, stating that “it is not a national defense force for protecting the country, but has degraded into a violent tool to guard the CCP’s private assets and oppress innocent civilians.”
Participants at the event expressed that the nationalization of the military is the basic bottom line of constitutional democracy, and that any authoritarian regime relying on violence and intimidation for sustenance will ultimately face judgment by history.
The protest activity on that day was organized by the China Democratic Party’s Western United States branch, attracting support from passing vehicles honking in solidarity.
Organizers stated that overseas democratic individuals will continue to speak out, rallying the forces of justice until the CCP’s authoritarian regime comes to an end, and freedom and constitutional governance return to China.
