94-year-old Hong Kong artist Hu Feng (Brother Xiu), who held a concert at the Hong Kong Coliseum just a month ago, recently experienced health issues. On July 30, he and his daughter-in-law posted a video on social media to disclose his condition, revealing that although they initially stated he was infected with COVID-19 and the flu, the truth was that he had suffered from a life-threatening “acute cholangitis” which almost led to his death.
In the video, Hu Feng’s daughter-in-law disclosed that in order to prevent unnecessary worry and disruption to hospital operations, the family had initially announced that Hu Feng was suffering from the novel coronavirus and the flu. However, the reality was that his condition was caused by acute cholangitis leading to gallstone blockage. In a critical situation, Hu Feng was urgently rushed to the Intensive Care Unit at Elizabeth Hospital for treatment.
During this period, due to difficulty breathing, Hu Feng had to be intubated and fell into a coma for a full 4 days. Fortunately, doctors promptly performed a cholangiostomy and gallbladder removal to prevent a recurrence. The doctors described Hu Feng’s situation as having “passed through the gates of death” and praised his good fortune.
Recalling his time in a coma, Hu Feng mentioned that he kept seeing flashes of his family, friends, godsons, and goddaughters. Even in his dreams, he kept reminding himself to make sure to meet his loved ones again. With a strong will to survive, he finally regained consciousness.
In the video posted on July 30 after his initial recovery, the 94-year-old Hu Feng expressed his gratitude to the medical staff for their attentive care and promised to cherish the opportunity to meet with family and friends even more.
Hu Feng, who is 94 years old, took to the stage at the Hong Kong Coliseum for the sixth time on June 7. This concert garnered much attention for being the “oldest Chinese artist concert” and not only did many celebrities attend to show their support, but the concert lasted nearly 5 hours, featuring a total of 45 songs.
For decades, Hu Feng has quietly supported younger generations in the industry, with stars like Jacky Cheung, Leon Lai, Sandy Lam, and Mimi Lo considering him as a godfather figure. In an interview, Hu Feng expressed his surprise at breaking a world record during his last concert, something he never imagined happening after entering the entertainment industry.
