Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs: Suspending Visa Applications for Morocco Based on Principle of Reciprocity.

The Taiwan Foreign Ministry announced today (July 30) that it will temporarily suspend the processing of visa applications for Moroccan nationals coming to Taiwan, in response to the Moroccan global embassy’s suspension of visa applications for Taiwanese nationals.

According to a press release issued by the Taiwan Foreign Ministry, the Moroccan Embassy in Japan notified Taiwanese travel agencies on the 23rd that they would no longer accept Taiwanese applications for the “Visa Confirmation Letter” (VCL) required for travel to Morocco. After verifying the information, the Moroccan government has instructed all its embassies worldwide to halt the processing of related applications. However, Taiwanese nationals who received a Moroccan visa confirmation letter before July 20 can still enter the country for business or travel purposes within the stipulated validity period.

As Taiwanese nationals are currently unable to apply for Moroccan e-visas, those planning short-term business trips to the country will now have to apply for the “Visa Confirmation Letter” directly from the Moroccan Embassy. The sudden suspension of visa issuance by the Moroccan government has posed obstacles to Taiwanese nationals engaging in business activities in the country and has had an impact on bilateral exchanges between the two nations.

In adherence to the principle of reciprocal bilateral exchanges, the Foreign Ministry announced that, effective immediately from July 30, it will temporarily suspend the processing of visa applications for Moroccan nationals coming to Taiwan, except for those that have been approved on a case-by-case basis. The ministry also urged the Moroccan government to address and maintain the convenience of mutual visits for business purposes between the two countries, and to promptly restore normal bilateral civil exchanges.

The Foreign Ministry will closely monitor the subsequent developments regarding visa measures by the Moroccan government towards Taiwan and will make necessary adjustments to visa policies for Moroccan nationals intending to travel to Taiwan.
