American Airlines announced on Tuesday evening that flights have resumed after an IT failure grounded all of the company’s flights nationwide.
According to a report from Fox News on Tuesday, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issued a nationwide grounding order for all American Airlines flights that were still on the ground due to a system-wide IT failure.
American Airlines subsequently released a statement confirming that the company was experiencing a system IT failure and that the technical team was working diligently to resolve the issue.
Around 7:20 p.m. on Tuesday, American Airlines provided an update on the situation on social media platform X, stating that the system was gradually coming back online and that some flights had resumed.
In the post, the company stated: “On Tuesday evening, a technical issue briefly affected the connectivity of some of our systems. Currently, our systems are gradually coming back online, and flights have resumed. During the time our team was resolving the issue, we implemented temporary flight suspensions.”
At the time of publication, American Airlines and the FAA had not disclosed the specific cause of the system failure, nor had they provided details on the overall scale of affected flights and passengers.
