New York homeowners of three million to receive up to $1500 in property tax relief.

New York Governor announced recently that nearly 3 million New York homeowners will receive a tax rebate this summer. So, keep an eye on your email inbox.

According to the Governor’s office, New York’s School Tax Relief (STAR) program provides property tax relief for eligible homeowners and senior citizens on their primary residence throughout the state. This $2 billion program aims to lower property taxes.

Most New York residents with annual incomes below $50,000 will receive cash ranging from $350 to $600; seniors will receive more, with those earning less than $110,750 expected to receive $700 to $1,500.

“The start of summer also marks the STAR tax relief season for millions of New Yorkers,” Governor Hochul said. “From tax credits and energy subsidies to our expanded Child Tax Credit and middle-class tax relief policies, we continue to put more money back into the pockets of New Yorkers.”

All registered and eligible homeowners under the STAR program will receive their checks before the school tax payment deadline. The school tax payment deadlines for certain areas of the state including New York City, Buffalo, Rochester, and Syracuse fall in late June and July.

If you own a home that is your primary residence and meet the income criteria mentioned above, you may qualify for this relief.

To receive the STAR rebate through direct deposit this year, it is recommended to register as soon as possible. The Governor advises completing the registration at least 15 business days before the local school tax payment deadline.

Starting on July 7th, New Yorkers can also receive additional assistance if needed, as the tax department will hold regional STAR enrollment events. These events will guide the public on how to register for the program and maximize the benefits available to them.

Residents can check the delivery schedule indicating the mailing date. Please allow 5 to 10 business days for delivery. The authorities will not provide an exact delivery date, only a general timeframe.

Governor Hochul disclosed the regional allocation of this year’s STAR property tax relief program, showing that a total of 2.78 million New York residents will benefit from the relief.
