Six months after falling from grace, former deputy director of the Hunan Provincial People’s Congress, Ye Hongzhuang, has been expelled from the Communist Party, had his benefits revoked, had his qualification as a delegate to the 12th Party Congress of Hunan Province terminated, and has been handed over to judicial authorities.
On June 5, the website of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Supervisory Commission of the Communist Party of China announced that an investigation had been conducted into the serious disciplinary and legal violations of Ye Hongzhuang, former member of the Standing Committee and deputy director of the Hunan Provincial People’s Congress.
The announcement stated that Ye Hongzhuang’s performance significantly deviated from the norms, engaging in irregular borrowing, conducting “image projects” and “performance projects”; accepting banquets in violation of regulations, having expenses that should have been paid by himself covered by others; failing to report personal matters in accordance with regulations, leveraging his position in the selection and appointment of cadres to seek benefits for others and accepting money and gifts; improperly accepting cash gifts, obtaining substantial returns through private lending, exploiting his authority for the benefit of relatives’ business activities; grossly neglecting his duties, causing massive economic losses to the state; using public power for personal gain, openly engaging in extortionate practices, exploiting his position for personal gains in project contracts, fund disbursements, and illicitly accepting large sums of money.
Ye Hongzhuang has been expelled from the Communist Party, had his benefits revoked, had his qualification as a delegate to the 12th Party Congress of Hunan Province terminated, and has been referred to judicial authorities.
On December 3, 2025, Ye Hongzhuang was officially placed under investigation.
Public records show that Ye Hongzhuang, born in June 1958 in Longshan County, Hunan Province, started working in March 1975 with a college degree.
Ye Hongzhuang had a long career in Hunan Province, serving as a member of the Standing Committee of Xiangxi Autonomous Prefecture, Party Secretary of Fenghuang County, member of the Standing Committee of Xiangxi Autonomous Prefecture, Party Secretary of Jishou City, Deputy Secretary and Governor of Xiangxi Autonomous Prefecture, and Party Secretary of Xiangxi Autonomous Prefecture.
In January 2018, Ye Hongzhuang was promoted to deputy director of the Hunan Provincial People’s Congress and continued to serve as Party Secretary of Xiangxi Autonomous Prefecture until March 2021. In January 2022, Ye Hongzhuang resigned from his position as deputy director of the Hunan Provincial People’s Congress.
