On August 22, a woman with bruises and swelling on her face was admitted to a hospital in Cangzhou, Hebei Province. After examination, it was confirmed that she showed no signs of life. Reports indicate that the woman had been suffering from domestic violence for a long time, with her husband, Jin, being a employee dispatched by the local procuratorate. Currently, the victim’s mother-in-law and husband have been taken into police custody.
A document titled “Case Summary of Liu (the victim)” circulating online recently revealed details of the incident. On the morning of August 22, Liu’s father received a call from the suspect’s father, informing him that Liu was in the county hospital emergency room. Upon arriving at the scene, Liu’s father found her with a bruised and purple face. CT scans showed bleeding and swelling in the brain, lung injuries, and a fractured waist, with no signs of life remaining.
The summary also mentioned that the suspect, Jin, had a history of long-term domestic violence, which ultimately led to the death of the victim.
On the evening of August 24, the police in Mengcun issued a notification stating that a criminal case had occurred in a certain residential area on August 22. Forensic examination revealed that Liu died from blunt force trauma to the head. The criminal suspects, Jin (male, 26 years old, Liu’s husband) and Zhang (female, 48 years old, Jin’s mother, suspected of aiding in the destruction of forged evidence), have been detained. The case has been transferred to the Suning County Public Security Bureau for further investigation.
According to a report by Fengshan News, the criminal suspect Jin was a employee dispatched by the local procuratorate, working as an ordinary staff member in the Third Procuratorate without civil service status or a police badge.
A friend of the victim, Xiaofan (alias), told Sina News that Liu and Jin had a relationship since their school days. Liu even lowered her exam scores and enrolled in Shijiazhuang Vocational College of Political Science and Law for Jin’s sake. Xiaofan stated, “At first, when he (Jin) hit her, she would tell her family. Later on, she kept it to herself.”
“The man’s family was well off in the local area, but whenever Liu asked for living expenses, she would be scolded; if she spent too much money, she would also be scolded.” Xiaofan mentioned that Liu and Jin had a son who had just started kindergarten a few days ago. In early August, Liu went for a job interview at a steamed bun shop, where the hourly wage was 10 yuan, but “her husband didn’t allow her to go, feeling embarrassed by her.”
A video from the residential area elevator on the day of the incident, provided by an informant to the Xiaoxiang Morning Post, showed multiple people pushing the injured person into the elevator around 7:32 a.m. The informant claimed that among those present were the victim’s husband Jin, his father, and two medical staff.
The informant pointed out that the incident occurred on the 21st night, and when they were taken to the hospital on the 22nd, they saw that the victim had bruises and swelling on her face, dark circles around her eyes, and both new and old wounds were visible on her body. “The man had a history of domestic violence towards the woman, which both families were aware of.”
On the evening of August 24, a medical emergency record provided by Liu’s family showed that the hospital received the order at 7:08 a.m. on August 22, but the patient was already deceased by the time the ambulance arrived, with “respiratory and heartbeat stopped, time unknown.”
Reports indicated that this tragic case of domestic violence involved the man having an extramarital affair. On August 25, the victim’s aunt told Daxiang News, “The conflict arose because this third party got pregnant. After he (Jin) came back, he denied it initially, but later my niece called that third party, and the incident occurred because of that.”
The victim’s uncle emphasized that it wasn’t just a simple case of domestic violence, but because the man (Jin) had an affair, and the third party was pregnant. The woman was pressuring him to divorce, but their niece didn’t want to because she had a child over three years old and feared losing custody if they divorced. He expressed, “This situation is heinous, and his parents are accomplices. Our family can’t accept it.”
On August 25, the topic “Hebei Woman Suspected of Dying from Domestic Violence” surged to the top spot on Weibo’s trending list, garnering the attention of many netizens, with a reading volume of up to 190 million.
Many netizens are calling for “clarification of the truth,” “severe punishment for the perpetrators,” and “a fair and just outcome for the victim.”
