On August 1st, in celebration of the 20th anniversary of the founding of the Shen Yun Art Troupe in the United States, the large art exhibition titled “Shenyun Collection” based on the Shen Yun stage art program opened at the “New Middletown Department Store” in Middletown, New York. The opening ceremony attracted over a hundred local residents, with Middletown Mayor Jose Destefano in attendance to offer his congratulations.
This exhibition featured 20 new art pieces showcasing the classic scenes from the Shen Yun Art Troupe’s performances over the past 20 years. The artworks were vibrant in colors and depicted stunning landscapes, earning praise from the people of Middletown.
Mayor Destefano congratulated the Shen Yun Art Troupe on its 20th anniversary.
“This year marks the 20th anniversary of Shen Yun, and we are delighted to be here in Middletown at ‘New Middletown’ celebrating with them,” the mayor said. “I am extremely proud of their achievements and the economic development they have brought to our city.”
Mayor Destefano went on to express that both the organizers and the exhibited works were excellent: “Excellent people, excellent works, excellent art.”
“Both the Shen Yun Art Troupe and the Fei Tian Academy have brought such rich resources to our community,” the mayor stated. “They have done something very positive, bringing people together here, which is extraordinary.”
Designer Meng Fei of “Shenyun Collection” mentioned that it took them six months to create this exhibition.
“We chose some classic scenes and transformed them into realistic paintings to primarily commemorate the brilliant 20-year journey of Shen Yun,” Meng Fei said. “The artworks are produced with highly precise micro-jet printing technology, making them last for 200 years, thus they can be considered as heirlooms.”
Social media influencer Li Muyang attended the opening ceremony of the exhibition. He particularly admired a masterpiece depicting the creation.
“There are so many elements in this artwork, including Buddhas, Daoists, gods, celestial beings, immortals, all integrated in this painting, it’s truly astonishing!” Li Muyang said. “The feeling is grand, and I recommend that if I had a big house, I would definitely buy this painting. Hanging such a colorful artwork in the house would surely make it shine brightly.”
Another social media blogger from “Old Beijing Teahouse,” Li Zheng, also found a painting that he liked.
“I noticed a prominent feature in these Shen Yun artworks, each scene is like a space, like a universe,” Li Zheng said. “Moreover, the accuracy in the images is very high, each person’s movement is different, like capturing a moment of stillness from a dynamic stage. When looking at the paintings, I feel like I can step inside them.”
Li Zheng mentioned that he could sense an energy field in each painting, having a spiritual purification effect. “I’m thinking, if I were to buy one to hang in my home, I would stand in front of it when I have nothing to do, to make myself purer and cleaner.”
Renowned art critic from “Insightful Reviews,” Tang Jingyuan, favored a painting depicting a heavenly realm.
“I especially like blue, particularly the heavenly scenes in sky blue or royal blue, they always feel very familiar,” he said. “Blue makes one’s mood clear and quiet, that’s why I love this piece.”
Tang Jingyuan believed that the “20th Anniversary of Shen Yun” is a day worth celebrating. In today’s society, not only have people lost traditional values, but also the sense of aesthetics, unable to distinguish true beauty from ugliness.
“I think Shen Yun has not only made tremendous efforts to restore traditional Chinese culture, but it has also led human society to rediscover traditional values and aesthetics,” he said. “Shen Yun directly presents the joyous and delightful art forms to you, this is the true beauty and the realm that people should aspire to.”
With the headquarters of Shen Yun located in Middletown, and now hosting such an art exhibition in the city center, Tang Jingyuan expressed that this is a unique and grand event for the people of Middletown.
Middletown resident and artist, James White, at the opening ceremony, expressed admiration for a painting depicting a lotus dance. He particularly liked the pink colors and circular patterns.
“It exudes a wonderful sense of harmony, perfectly balanced, mysteriously natural; and the dancing patterns, all the circles encompass deeper meanings,” White remarked.
White shared that the entire exhibition offers a feeling of sacredness and beauty, holding significant value for the community.
“You know, art, especially the highest form of art, is closely connected to divinity, which is significant. The highest level of art is to help people remember the purpose of their existence and to remind them to connect with their true selves, truly returning to the source.”
White stated, “This exhibition brings all these sacred scenes to people, like walking into the Sistine Chapel, instead of looking up at the ceiling, appreciating these beautiful paintings can evoke elevation, bring about that sense of beauty, as long as you stand in front of these paintings, you can feel positive emotions.”
The exhibition at New Middletown will be open to the public from August 2nd to August 31st; the online exhibition will continue for a longer period.
